Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a keen interest in migration-related issues and IOM's activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The internship will focus on assisting with IT activities to ensure the consistency and timeliness of technical support provided to the duty station. Interns will work under the direct supervision of the Information Technology Team Leader in Brasilia and will be involved in various operational activities of the Mission. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain practical experience in the field of information technology within an international organization, while also contributing to IOM's mission of promoting safe and orderly migration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting in the installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintenance of IT systems and equipment such as computers, smartphones, printers, and routers.
  • Monitoring the physical operation of the IT infrastructure, including LAN and wireless equipment, to ensure continuous network services.
  • Providing first-level support to users experiencing technical issues, both in-person and remotely.
  • Assisting in user orientation regarding ICT systems and applications.
  • Helping with data backup on drives and cloud applications.
  • Maintaining an updated inventory of software licenses and IT assets.
  • Providing IT assistance during IOM events, webinars, and meetings.
  • Supporting other ICT activities as needed.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final two academic years of an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Networking, or a related field. Alternatively, candidates who have completed such a program within the last 12 months are also eligible to apply. While professional work experience is not required, candidates should possess a good command of MS Office applications and Windows operating systems, as well as knowledge in installing and configuring software and hardware. Creativity and a willingness to explore new ideas and approaches are also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having recently completed an undergraduate degree in fields related to information technology, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or Computer Networking. This ensures that candidates have the foundational knowledge necessary to assist with IT-related tasks effectively.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate competencies such as proficiency in MS Office applications, familiarity with Windows operating systems, and knowledge of hardware and software installation. The ability to think creatively and approach problems with innovative solutions is also highly valued. Interns should be eager to learn and develop their skills in a practical setting.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, a working knowledge of Spanish and English is desirable, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be assessed during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral evaluations.

Additional Notes:
The internship is offered for a duration of three months and is based in Brasilia. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, depending on their experience and location. However, those who are already receiving financial support from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage for interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. Interns are responsible for securing their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting the internship. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that contradicts the organization's values, including discrimination and harassment.
