Job Overview: The Field Assistant position is crucial for supporting the operations and administrative activities at the Reception Facility for Voluntary Return (DARV). The role involves direct supervision by the Reception Facility for Voluntary Return Officer and overall supervision by the AVRR Coordinator. The Field Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the facility, including assisting individuals upon their arrival, during their stay, and upon their departure. The position requires a proactive approach to administrative tasks, data management, and service delivery, ensuring that all beneficiaries receive the necessary support and services. The Field Assistant will also play a key role in maintaining accurate records and facilitating communication between various stakeholders, including external service providers and partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing administrative assistance to DARV activities, supporting individuals with registration and orientation upon arrival, assisting in the distribution of services and items during their stay, coordinating check-out processes, maintaining tracking data in databases, conducting awareness sessions for beneficiaries, monitoring service delivery, supporting logistical operations, reporting daily to supervisors, maintaining confidentiality of documentation, and being available for extended shifts and weekends as needed. The role requires a commitment to ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the necessary care and that all operations are conducted in accordance with established procedures and standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in both administrative and field operations, demonstrating versatility and hands-on experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet research is essential, along with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to interact effectively across teams and with clients is crucial. Additionally, candidates should have good organizational and time management skills, basic proficiency in data entry and reporting tools, and the ability to follow procedures accurately. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in shifts, including weekends and overnight, are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either four years of working experience with secondary (high school) education or two years of working experience with a bachelor’s degree. Candidates must have graduated from accredited universities recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a strong background in administrative and field operations, showcasing versatility and hands-on experience. This includes familiarity with managing digital tasks and documentation, as well as a proven track record of effective communication and collaboration within teams and with clients. Experience in a similar role or environment will be highly advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in French is required for this position, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English and Arabic is considered an advantage. The proficiency of the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their language skills during the interview process.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Algeria will be eligible for consideration. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation. This selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. The appointment will be subject to certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government.
