The organization has a strong presence in Nigeria, where it has been responding to humanitarian crises for over five years, particularly in the Northeast region, which is currently facing a significant humanitarian crisis due to the high number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Job Overview:
The Assistant Technical Officer, Nurse/Midwife position is crucial in providing nursing and midwifery care to vulnerable populations in Northeast Nigeria. The role involves delivering high-quality patient care, following medical protocols, and ensuring hygiene standards are met. The officer will assist female patients throughout their pregnancy journey, offering antenatal and postnatal support. This position requires a compassionate approach to care, as the officer will be working with individuals who are facing severe health challenges due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for patients, while also participating in community health programs and health education initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Technical Officer include: working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care; ensuring proper reception and assistance for patients with limited autonomy; conducting triage and first aid for emergency cases; implementing universal hygiene standards; organizing and carrying out medical treatments as per prescriptions; participating in health education for patients and families; monitoring patient health and identifying emergencies; maintaining accurate patient records; collaborating with Community Health Extension workers; adhering to ethical standards; participating in outreach programs; engaging in professional development; planning patient care with site doctors; administering direct nursing care; maintaining equipment hygiene; compiling and submitting reports; ensuring infection prevention measures; and performing any additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BSc in Nursing or Midwifery with at least 1-3 years of relevant post-NYSC experience. A valid practicing license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife is mandatory. Additional qualifications in public health or related fields from recognized institutions are advantageous. Familiarity with Nigerian public health systems and experience in humanitarian settings are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in challenging working conditions, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or Midwifery. Candidates must also have completed their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and possess a valid practicing license. Additional certifications in public health or related fields are considered beneficial and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in nursing or midwifery, particularly in clinical and maternity settings. Experience working in humanitarian crises is highly desirable, as it equips candidates with the skills necessary to handle the unique challenges presented in such environments. Previous roles should demonstrate the ability to provide comprehensive patient care and work effectively within a team.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in local languages such as Hausa, Kanuri, or Fula, which are commonly spoken in Northeast Nigeria. Strong communication skills in both spoken and written forms are essential for effective interaction with patients and team members.

This position is based in Banki, Borno State, Nigeria, and requires the ability to travel and rotate to various locations within the state. The role is full-time and involves working in challenging conditions, including long-distance travel to distribution sites.
