The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002, primarily in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its mission is to save lives and reduce the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI works closely with governments and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems. Over the years, CHAI has expanded its focus beyond HIV to include infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. The organization operates in 40 countries and emphasizes the importance of local leadership and sustainable impact in its programs. Job Overview:
The intern will assist the CHAI China country team and relevant global disease program teams in developing and implementing project activities aligned with specific partnership frameworks, work plans, and budgets. The role involves collaborating with both public and private sector partners to create methodologies, tools, and key performance indicators that are essential for project management and achieving goals. The intern will also lead or support various activities such as data collection, policy research, interviews, industry analysis, financial modeling, and report drafting to provide evidence-based recommendations. Additionally, the intern will help with internal and external communications, including managing newsletters and social media presence, and will provide strategic recommendations for new program development and process improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the CHAI China country team and global disease program teams in project activity development and implementation as per partnership frameworks, work plans, and budgets.
  • Collaborate with public and private sector partners to develop methodologies, tools, and key performance indicators for project management and goal fulfillment.
  • Lead or support data collection, policy research, interviews, industry analysis, financial modeling, and report drafting to generate evidence-based policy and business recommendations.
  • Assist with internal and external communications, including planning and managing newsletters and social media presence.
  • Provide strategic recommendations for new program development, project management, and process improvement.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as needed to support the team and organization.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current student in business, economics, public health, political sciences, or a related field.
  • Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in a professional setting; native Chinese speakers preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong analytical background and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in diverse cultural settings.
  • Ability to work independently without extensive structural or operational support.
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsiveness to emails and messages.
  • Experience working and living in China is preferred.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for public health and international development. 1
  • Past internship experience in finance, consulting, policy research, or the healthcare sector is a plus. 1
  • Experience working and living in low-income countries or resource-limited settings is a plus.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be current students pursuing degrees in business, economics, public health, political sciences, or related fields. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health systems and project management in the context of global health initiatives.

Experience:
Candidates should have some level of experience, preferably through internships or academic projects, in areas such as finance, consulting, policy research, or the healthcare sector. Experience living and working in China is also preferred, as it provides valuable context for the role. Additionally, experience in low-income countries or resource-limited settings is considered a plus, as it aligns with CHAI's mission and operational focus.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese is mandatory, with a strong preference for native Chinese speakers. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication in a professional setting, especially given the diverse cultural contexts in which CHAI operates. Other languages may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.
