Job Overview:
The Protection Officer will work under the technical supervision of the Protection Team Leader and with input from the Protection Manager. This role involves conducting ethical and safe interviews with community members, ensuring diverse representation, and assisting individuals at risk through referrals. The officer will monitor and report on emerging trends of rights violations, manage casework, and collaborate with various teams within DRC to ensure effective protection services. The position requires proactive engagement with local authorities and communities, and the officer will be responsible for maintaining case management standards and data integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer will be responsible for providing direct client services within the case management program, managing a caseload of both routine and complex cases, and ensuring compliance with DRC standards. Key responsibilities include conducting interviews, performing protection risk assessments, developing tailored case plans, closing cases when objectives are met, and maintaining accurate data entry in Activity Info. The officer will also support procurement and administrative processes, conduct quality checks on case files, and ensure confidentiality and data protection. Regular reporting to the Protection Manager and participation in team meetings are also essential duties, along with coordination with stakeholders at the district and community levels.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess 2-3 years of experience in protection case management with INGOs, NGOs, or the UN. They should demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a commitment to human rights. Problem-solving abilities, professionalism, and integrity are crucial, along with experience in conducting qualitative interviews. Familiarity with data management tools like KOBO is preferred, and candidates should be able to work independently and make sound judgments under pressure.

Educational Background:
A degree from a recognized university in fields such as law, political science, social work, psychology, or related disciplines is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of protection work and case management.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of relevant experience in protection case management, preferably within international organizations. This experience should include handling complex cases, conducting interviews, and managing data effectively. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines is essential, as is the capacity to juggle multiple responsibilities.

Languages:
Fluency in Dari and Pashto is mandatory, along with a working level of English. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with clients and stakeholders in the field.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Afghanistan, and candidates should be willing to work in field locations and travel as required. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the DRC salary scale.
