Job Overview: The Business Development Specialist (BDS) at Save the Children Canada (SCC) plays a crucial role in designing and securing funding proposals for international development and humanitarian programs. Reporting to the Director of International Programs & Partnerships, the BDS is tasked with improving outcomes for children globally by leading the development of high-quality proposals aimed at various donors, including Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and philanthropic partners. This position requires collaboration across teams to strengthen internal processes and tools, ensuring that proposals meet donor requirements and align with SCC's strategic priorities. The BDS will also engage in prospect research, donor engagement strategies, and manage relationships with institutional donors, thereby contributing significantly to the organization's mission of supporting children's rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Business Development Specialist include leading prospect research and competitive analyses to identify new funding opportunities, cultivating and managing relationships with institutional donors, advising stakeholders on donor requirements, guiding internal approval processes for new opportunities, assisting in the negotiation of partnership roles, managing proposal development, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, maintaining internal systems and documentation, strengthening the capacity of Country Offices and partners, and providing strategic input to improve internal systems related to business development. The BDS will also collaborate closely with various stakeholders to drive efficiency and coordination in proposal submissions, and lead or support cross-member account management strategies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in International Development, NGOs, or not-for-profit sectors. They should have demonstrated experience with GAC standards and guidelines, a proven track record in securing institutional funding, and familiarity with child rights programming across various sectors. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building strong relationships across diverse audiences, and proficiency in MS Office tools is required. The ability to work under pressure and display analytical and problem-solving skills is also necessary.
Educational Background: A post-secondary education in a relevant field is required, which may include areas such as international development, public policy, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience in relevant roles may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in International Development, particularly within NGOs or similar organizations. Candidates should have a strong understanding of proposal development processes and experience in securing funding from institutional donors, especially Global Affairs Canada.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset. This multilingual capability is beneficial for engaging with diverse stakeholders and enhancing communication within international contexts.
Additional Notes: This position offers a salary range of $61,778.85 - $78,336.60 CAD, depending on skills and experience. Employees will receive a comprehensive benefits package after three months of employment, including parental leave top-up, a hybrid workplace, flexible work hours, and various paid leave options.
