Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change (SGCCC) and the Green Cluster coordination-team" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">coordination team. The SGCCC serves as a platform for dialogue and exchange on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) implementation and climate governance between China and Germany. The intern will be involved in supporting policy dialogue at the national level and enhancing the implementation of climate policies at the local level, particularly in alignment with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. The role requires active participation in various project activities, including meetings, workshops, and conferences, while also contributing to the documentation and dissemination of project results. The intern will engage in targeted research on climate policy, assist in maintaining the project’s online presence, and support administrative tasks related to project management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for conducting research assignments focused on European, German, and Chinese climate policies, and will assist in monitoring climate-related policy developments. Key responsibilities include preparing, implementing, and following up on project activities, which may involve organizing meetings, bilateral dialogues, expert workshops, and conferences. The intern will also be tasked with maintaining and updating the project’s internet presence and creating PR materials. Additional duties include targeted research on relevant topics, editing information for newsletters and presentations, translating documents and presentations between German and English (and Chinese), and supporting daily administrative tasks. Furthermore, the intern will assist in managing the Green Cluster portfolio by conducting research, preparing monitoring tools, designing presentations, and drafting, translating, and editing publications.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program or have recently graduated (within the last six months) in a relevant field such as Climate/Energy Policy, Environmental Economics, Political Science, International Relations, or Regional Studies. A solid understanding of international climate change policies and instruments, particularly in the context of the EU, Germany, and China, is essential. Prior work experience or internships in climate change, international cooperation, or within China are considered advantageous. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a reliable, independent, and results-oriented working style, with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are also important, along with experience in writing and using WordPress CMS, which is a plus.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program or to have graduated within the last six months in a field that is relevant to the projects at hand. This includes disciplines such as Climate/Energy Policy, Environmental Economics, Political Science, International Relations, or Regional Studies. A strong academic background in these areas will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of climate policy and international cooperation.
Experience: Candidates should possess prior work experience or internships related to climate change, international cooperation, or relevant fields. Experience working in China or with Chinese organizations is particularly valuable. The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently students or have recently graduated, ensuring that candidates have a fresh perspective and up-to-date knowledge in their field of study.
Languages: Proficiency in German and English is mandatory for this position, as the intern will be required to translate documents and presentations between these languages. Knowledge of Mandarin is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication and understanding within the context of the projects and local stakeholders.
