Post Young Graduate Trainee for ExoMars Rover Operations Preparation This post is classified F1. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Our team and mission The Rover and Surface Platform (RSP) mission of the ExoMars programme will deliver the European Rover “Rosalind Franklin” and the Russian surface platform “Kazachok” to the surface of Mars. The ExoMars Rover will travel across the Martian surface to search for signs of life on its “218 sols” mission. It will collect samples with a drill and analyse them with advanced scientific instruments. The Rover Operations Control Centre (ROCC) will be located in Turin, Italy. The Centre will monitor and control ExoMars Rover operations. Rover operators and engineers from ESA and industry as well as international scientists are now preparing the operations to be executed after the landing on Mars. - Support Rover operations preparation which is done together with the industrial Rover designers and manufacturers and the Rover scientists for the different phases of the Rover mission, in particular after landing on Mars.
- Support to prepare, run and analyse operational scenarios for the various mission phases after landing, including scenarios for driving off the Landing Platform (Rover egress phase), for checking the Rover system and scientific instruments on the Mars surface (Rover commissioning phase) and for the routine Rover operations thereafter.
- Check system resources (power, time, bandwidth) and orbiter communication, as well as coherence of the ground process (operator shift scheme, number of required operators) against the detailed Analysis from industry, providing additional insight to the ESA project team.
- Specific tools will be used for these tasks, in particular the Rover software simulator called ROSEX, and its interface with the environment via the 3D-based Rover Operations Control System “3DROCS”. Development of a complementary support tool is envisaged.
