Post Context

NSB provides CIS services to deployed NATO HQs. The Maintenance and Support Company is responsible for Technical Support of C2 services (including IS Support to FS). By providing electronic maintenance (level 2+) of deployable assets, for level 2 maintenance of CIS and Non-CIS equipment, and supply for the NATO Signal Battalion. Responsible for the operational planning and control of all level 2/2+ CIS maintenance assets in support of NATO operations and exercises. Provide early entry communications and level-2 maintenance and technical support for NATO satellite equipment. The incumbent is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance (IO&M) and technical support of deployable satellite equipment. Reports to: Section Head/Team 1 Leader (SATCOM)

Principal Duties: He/she will

  1. Assist Communication Engineer in technical support of all NSB assigned DCIS assets.

  1. Exercise technical control, system engineering and installation of a SATCOM terminal.

  1. Maintain crypto equipment manuals and the keying material for the SATCOM terminal.

  1. Be required to deploy for exercises and operations.

  1. Manage preventive and corrective maintenance of CIS equipment at peacetime location and deployed location.

  1. Inspect and evaluatestraining of NSB DCM/MSC personnel in the functional areas of CIS network, ADP and Info Ops.

  1. Contribute to Battalion Operations Centre as Technician. Support Battalion Operations Centre Head by ensuring Operations Centre’s functionality on daily basis. Ensure required level of support as directed by NSB COMMs Engineer. Report DCIS status to COMMs Engineer.

Special Requirements and Additional Duties Mandatory Deployment Post.  The incumbent may be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments, both within and outside NATO boundaries.  Such operational deployment may exceed 30 days duration up to 183 days in any period of 547 days and may be on short notice.  For NATO International Civilian Staff, acceptance of an employment contract linked to this post constitutes agreement to deploy in excess of 30 days if required. Essential Qualifications Secondary education and basic training  for specific task related skills, with 2 years experience.
  1. At least one year practical experience in the planning, implementation and troubleshooting of military deployable satellite systems.

  2. Extensive experience in the configuration and troubleshooting of systems which use FO and copper modems and media converters.

  3. Must have completed CCNA or ICND 1&2 within the last three years.

  4. Experience in the fabrication, repair and installation of field cable systems (optical and copper), including implementation of requisite Security regulations.

  5. Hands-on experience with sophisticated test equipment and tools for telecommunication systems.

Language English - SLP 3322 - (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) NOTE: The work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English.

Desirable Qualifications

Have completed CCNA or ICND 1&2. Possess   B-C driving license.

Work Environment

He/she will be required to work in a normal NATO office environment.

Contract

Serving NATO International Civilian staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations. Newly recruited staff will be offered a three year definite duration contract. Grade Grade ABCL grade B3 / NATO grade 8

Notes for candidates

The candidature of NATO redundant staff at grade B-3 will be considered with priority. Applicants who are not successful in this competition may be offered an appointment to another post of a similar nature, albeit at the same or a lower grade, provided they meet the necessary requirements.
