Support Officer – International Law Location: Moorgate, London Contract type: Permanent Hours: 35 hours per week Salary: £23,584 (inclusive of London Weighting) Could you provide a high level of administrative and office support to the British Red Cross’ International Law Department? We have a fantastic opportunity for an organised financial administrator to support the department with a range of responsibilities including advisory/regulatory, administrative, financial and secretarial. What you will be doing You will support the International Law Department with effective administrative and information systems including the monitoring of the departmental budget and support in the preparation of the department’s annual plan and budget. A key responsibility will be to support in department matters such as use and misuse of the Red Cross emblem and designation; this will involve contact with members of the public as well as with British Red Cross colleagues, and the drafting of correspondence and the undertaking of related research. Reporting to the Head of International Law, your other important duty will be to provide secretarial support to the British Red Cross delegations to international statutory meetings. What we are looking for With a genuine interest in the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, we are looking for a very organised, experienced financial administrator with knowledge of budget preparation and spreadsheet maintenance. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to analyse financial data, accurately compile briefings, reports and draft correspondence for a variety of audiences. As well as having strong IT proficiency in Microsoft Office packages (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), you will have great organisational skills from having previously managed work within a fast-paced environment, working to deliver on time against specific objectives. Having an interest in international law, UK law and/or the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement would be an advantage. Meet the team International humanitarian law (IHL) is central to the basis of the British Red Cross, as it is for other National Societies, being reflected in several articles of the British Red Cross’s Supplemental Royal Charter of Incorporation 1997. The British Red Cross has an officially recognised role in the field of IHL, and co-operates with the British government and armed forces in educating people in IHL, in ensuring respect for that law, and in protecting the integrity of the Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems.
