Ashoka is an international non-profit organization that pioneered the field of social Entrepreneurship almost 40 years ago. Headquartered in Arlington, Ashoka is the world’s first and largest professional network of social entrepreneurs in 92+ countries. Today, we are investing in the people and patterns for building Everyone a Changemaker world, a world where everyone is an active contributor, has the skills to solve problems, and drives change for the good of all. From social entrepreneurs to young changemakers, we need everyone to feel the confidence and have the skills necessary to live in a happier, healthier, and more equitable world. ABOUT OUR TEAM Like all great social movements, young people are at the center of change. And to achieve an Everyone a Changemaker world, we urgently need every young person to self identify as a changemaker for the good of all. We know that stories play a very important role in demonstrating the power of young people to create change and inspire others to find their own power to do the same. Ashoka launched a storytelling initiative to demonstrate the power of a young person who had an idea, created a team and led a solution. Through storytelling, we aim to inspire young people to be bold and creative, and parents and educators to promote these kinds of growing up experiences, in order to make young changemaking the new norm in today's world. Our team is looking for energetic and creative interns to support content creation, product development, and movement building. UNDERGRADUATE Internship AND GAP YEAR OPPORTUNITIES Below is a list possible projects based on your unique skillset and team priorities.  Storytelling and Design:
  • Produce stories of changemakers in the Ashoka network through interviews, written stories, videos, or other creative means. (ex. longform articles, children’s books, videos, and podcasts).

  • Experiment with different forms of storytelling to convey the LeadYoung message to different audiences.

Product Management:
  • Co-develop products and tools for target audiences with the LeadYoung message, such as changemaker magazine, podcast, workshop curriculum, and live virtual forums.

  • Research, identify, and help approach potential partners and funding opportunities in the US and globally.

  • Help craft, edit, and revise pitches, proposals, guides, and handouts for internal and external communication.

  • Support administrative tasks for institutional growth, such as documentation, Content Management, and copy-editing.

Movement Building:
  • Help develop and advance prototypes for spreading Ashoka’s message and movement, like a Storytelling Workshop, Virtual Storytelling Forums and Storytelling Challenges.

  • Identify new virtual events for the team to share our movement, help us apply for a workshop space and co-create workshops with our team.

Research and Trend Mapping:
  • Identify, analyze, and document patterns and trends of young changemaking

  • Survey the landscape of media and storytelling for young audiences, parents, and educators

  • Ambitious storyteller with a love of writing, Video Production, art, Graphic Design, or photography

  • Intrapreneur eager to navigate ambiguity and experiment with new ways of thinking and doing

  • Creative thinker who is eager to gain meaningful experience in the social impact sector and sees the importance of young people in shaping today’s world

  • Problem-solver with with a strong ethical fiber and entrepreneurial drive, eager to build a world where everyone has their power to create positive change for the good of all

  • Team-player who values accountability, flexibility, open communication, and time management. You can work both independently and alongside fluid and collaborative teams.

Highly valued skills:
  • Proficiency in English and exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, LightRoom, Premiere Pro) is highly valued (but not mandatory)

  • Proficiency in any other language is highly valued (but is not mandatory)

  • Prior internship Volunteer, or coursework experience in the social impact sector (but is not mandatory)

Logistics How to Apply: Step 1: Submit a resume, cover letter, and a writing sample. In your cover letter, note what potential projects listed excite you and why. If you have  design experience, please include a sample.   • Time commitment: 10-40 hours per week (flexible)

  • Spots: 2-3.

  • Age Requirement: Must be older than 18 to apply.

  • Duration: minimum of a 3-month commitment, maximum

  • Compensation: These positions are currently unpaid.  

  • Language: High command of the English language is required. Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesian, Hindi, French or other languages is an added benefit, but not necessary

  • Location: 100% remote
