Job Description

Organizational Background The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance. Organizational Setting This position reports to the SnT Project Management under the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES). Reporting Lines Science and Technology 2021 Conference (SnT2021) is an interdivisional project. Under the overall guidance of the Director, IDC and the direct supervision of the SnT Project Manager, the incumbent will carry out the following duties: Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop the SnT2021 conference objectives and programme; ensure throughout the preparations that all elements of the SnT2021 are supporting the conference objectives and CTBTO’s science and technology needs;

  2. Support the Project Manager in developing, maintaining and implementing the SnT2021 project plan using the project management tools of the Secretariat and the lessons learned from past conferences

  3. Prepare and manage the project budget and its implementation;

  4. Build and lead the project team responsible for the venue, participant services, scientific programme, high-level framework activities and promotion;

  5. Ensure regular reporting against the plan including progress, risk, exceptions in the execution of the project timeline and recommend mitigating actions to ensure timely execution of the project plan;

  6. Facilitate Coordination of the various members of the project team responsible for venue, participant services, scientific programme, and promotion;

  7. Closely cooperate with the Procurement Section through open engagement and advanced planning;

  8. Preparation of the SnT Reports;

  9. Develop and monitor tasks under the Science and Technology process, which has the overriding goal of providing the PTS with new ideas to ensure further development of the verification system;

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Work Experience
  • Seven (7) years relevant work experience including involvement with the organization of large scale meetings and conferences, part of which should preferably have been in an international environment;

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and the use of project management methodologies (preferably PRINCE2) are essential.

Languages
  • Excellent written and Oral Communication skills in English are essential;

  • Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages is desirable.

Remuneration: CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission. The salary offered may be subject to deductions to the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and Health Insurance Scheme. Short Term Appointment shall be made under a contract for a period not to exceed 364 days subject to the availability of funds. Additional Information:
