Job Description

This position is located in Kirkuk in the Medical Section of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). The Senior Nurse reports to the Medical Officer.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Nurse will be responsible for the following duties:

-Attend the day-to-day activities at the clinic in a full time basis. -Respond to Emergency calls and assist the Medical Officers in providing adequate care. Stay on call during and outside office hours when required. -Perform Electrocardiogram (ECG), and other medical exams such as blood tests, and glucose, cholesterol and urine exams, as required. -Maintain the medical clinic in good order, identify and plan clinics’ medical material, supplies and equipment requirements and raise lists accordingly. -Assess needs of clients visiting the walk-in clinic, provide care and advice accordingly and facilitate referrals to the UN Medical Officer or to an outside physician. -Assist in providing Health Education and participate in addressing work environment, occupational health and other specific health issues. -Maintains medical inventory and supplies and distributes medical supplies to outstations. -Manage the pharmacy and the arrangement of the drugs and medical supplies including inventory, monthly consumptions, and expired drugs. -Assist in and act as an escort in medevac procedures, and arrange and prepare the body of the deceased prior to repatriation of dead body. -Performs other duties as and when required. Education

High school or equivalent diploma is required. A certificate as Registered Professional Nurse to practice by a recognized and accredited national institution or board is required. Technical or vocational certificate in a nursing programme, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support is an asset. A first level bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in nursing or related field is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in general nursing, intensive care and health Administration is required. Supervisory experience in mission administration is required. Experience in using electronic medical records system is required. Experience in communicating with patients in medico-administrative matters is desirable. Experience working with the medial policies and procedures of the United Nations or a comparable international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
