To see why ITER is a great place to work, please look at this video Application deadline: 27/09/2020 Domain:Engineering Department: Central Integration Office Division: Configuration Management Section: Design and Configuration Control Job Family: Project Engineering Job Role: Engineer - 2 Job Grade: P3 Language requirements: Fluent in English (written & spoken) Contract duration: Up to 5 years Purpose As a Safety & Technical Requirements Officer, you will contribute to the verification, validation and implementation of ITER requirements processes for a defined area of the ITER Project. You will also advise technical Responsible Officers (RO), system engineers, safety RO, and Domestic Agencies in the identification and control of quality and consistency of the requirements and guarantee their proper propagation & implementation; Background This position is part of the design control mission owned by the ITER Organization’s Central Integration Office (CIO). One of the objectives of CIO is to ensure that the safety and performance requirements, in addition to the technical requirements from the engineering disciplines are captured, controlled and communicated through the supply chain and that the evidence of the verification of these requirements are maintained during the whole ITER lifecycle. Major Duties/Roles & Responsibilities
  • Controls the implementation of the Requirements Management processes, in accordance with the ITER Quality Assurance Program to ensure that the top level safety and technical objectives are correctly identified, allocated to and verified for the lower level ITER system elements (systems, structures and components), then validated, as well as recorded and tracked;

  • Provides advice, assistance, coaching and training to the staff in producing, updating and controlling requirements management documents such as procedures, requirements compliance matrix, etc.;

  • Identifies any gaps in the propagation of ITER high level requirements and proposes solutions and follows-up on their implementation in case of non-compliance;

  • Maintains the requirements database with the incorporation of the new functionalities required for the continuous improvement of process integration and control;

  • Provides regular reports on the status of the requirements propagation and compliance and ensures the recording and archiving of all data and records related to the requirements management process and its application;

  • Develops and maintains How-to, templates, training material and guidelines for the staff involved in the requirement management activities;

  • May be requested to be part of any of the project/construction teams and to perform other duties in support of the project;

  • May be required to work outside ITER Organization reference working hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays.

Measure of Effectiveness
  • Carries out efficiently trainings, ensuring an efficient use by IO stakeholders of the requirements management processes and tools;

  • Provides adequate expertise to stakeholders to quality and within the defined schedule;

  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of the requirements process propagation and compliance demonstrations;

  • Ensures that documentation is accurate, kept up to date and stored correctly in relevant databases;

  • Provides timely and clear reports on the status of the implementation of the requirements management process, identifying promptly any blocking issues and supporting the line management in the identification of corrective actions.

Experience & Profile
  • Professional Experience:
    • At least 8 years’ experience in performing and coordinating engineering activities, configuration control and requirements management in various phases of complex technical projects.


  • Education:
    • Master’s Degree or equivalent in an Engineering field or other relevant discipline;

    • The required education degree may be substituted by extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities and/or additional training certificates in relevant domains.


  • Language requirements:
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken).


  • Technical Competencies and Demonstrated Experience in:
    • Writing plans and procedures in the areas of requirements management and design control;

    • Implementing requirements management through the full engineering V-cycle up to the testing, verification compliance, validation and preparation of equipment qualification dossiers;

    • General Systems Engineering processes:

    • Various typical deliverable to be produced by engineering, construction, commissioning, maintenance;

    • Managing engineering data according to defined rules:, i.e.: good understanding of the requirements management software, and understanding of the interface with the PLM systems

    • Working in large multinational projects is considered as an advantage;

    • Configuration management competencies are advantageous.

The following important information shall apply to all jobs at ITER Organization:
  • Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of the ITER Safety Program, ITER Values (Trust; Loyalty; Integrity; Excellence; Team mind set; Diversity and Inclusiveness) and Code of Conduct;

  • ITER Core technical competencies of 1) Nuclear Safety, environment, radioprotection and pressured equipment 2) Occupational Health, safety & Security 3) Quality assurance processes. Knowledge of these competencies may be acquired through on-board training at basic understanding level for all ITER staff members;

  • Implements the technical control of the Protection Important Activities, as well as their propagation to the entire supply chain;

  • May be requested to work on beryllium-containing components. In this case, you will be required to follow the established ITER Beryllium Management Program for working safely with beryllium. Training and support will be provided by the ITER Organization;

  • May be requested to be part of any of the project/construction teams and to perform other duties in support of the project;

  • Informs the IO Director-General, Domain Head, or Department/Office Head of any important and urgent issues that cannot be handled by lline management and that may jeopardize the achievement of the Project’s objectives.
