Job Description


Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters Duty Stations.

10. Description of tasks:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer (CE) the duties of the Project Manager (engineer) will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing and maintaining project plans.

  • Managing the production of the required constructions, taking responsibility for overall progress and use of resources and initiating corrective action where necessary.

  • Managing the contracts involved in the different phases of the project

  • Monitoring the overall project progress and the project schedule and reports any delays to CE and Project Board.

  • Identifying and managing risks in order to achieve the maximum benefit for the stakeholders and final users.

  • Monitoring and evaluating performance contractor, subcontractors and other of service and product providers.

  • Managing the information flows between the different stakeholders and other agents involved in the stages of the project.

  • Advising the stakeholders on issues that may impact the achievement of their outcomes

  • Implement audit procedures within engineering section and the projects managed and liaise withaudits from other sections.

  • Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Master degree or equivalent

Advanced University Degree (Master's or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architectural, or other relevant discipline.

60 Months

At least 5 year experience in project development and management of construction projects.

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Civil engineering and construction supervision, Other engineering and construction related experience

Advanced University Degree (Master's or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architectural, or other relevant discipline.

An additional 2 years of relevant work experience in combination with a relevant first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) may substitute for the requirement for a Master’s degree.

  • Good understanding of the project phases from project set-up through Design, Bidding, construction and project close-out is required.

  • Knowledge of architectural, engineering and construction principles and practices.

  • Experience in managing construction projects in the international field is required.

  • Experience in monitoring, reporting, development and Coordination in either public or private sector organizations is an asset.

  • Certification in Prince 2 is an asset.

  • Experience in project and team management and skills development.

  • Experience in the East and Central Africa Region is desirable.

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations/MONUSCO. Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory; French is an advantage
