The Mediterranean Forum for Applied Ecosystem Based-Management (MED4EBM) project is one of the regional initiatives that is intended to contribute to the preservation and sustainable development of Mediterranean coastal zones for the benefit of present and future generations by establishing effective ecosystem-based ICZM protocols. The project is funded by European Union, under the ENI CBC MED programme and is implemented over a period of 36 months.
The project is implemented in different sites in four countries including Aqaba, with UNDP Jordan as a lead partner and by five regional partners namely; Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan, Aqaba, Jordan; National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies, Tunisia; Tyre Coast Nature Reserve, Lebanon; PROGES - Planning and Development Consulting, Lazio, Italy and Association Friends of the Earth, Lazio, Italy
The Project assists ICZM actors in the four coastal areas to jointly develop and apply a common methodology to make ecosystem-based ICZM much easier to Design and implement. Institutional actors can thus easily establish ecosystem-based ICZM cross-border cooperation and Coordination platforms. Governments and other stakeholders can use these platforms to take informed decisions for establishing Ecosystem-Based governance protocols for coastal and marine resources. Institutions concerned with ICZM in the four Project’s target areas will also jointly undertake the spreading of the common methodology they have developed by establishing a joint regional Forum.
The project will bring benefits to a wide range of stakeholders concerned with the management of coastal and marine areas including; local authorities and institutions, scientific institutions and NGOs. The three-year project will also aim at better management and use of the various sets of coastal and marine resources.Duties and Responsibilities
