UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young’s person potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s new strategic plan 2018-2021, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal death; to end unmet need for Family Planning; end gender-based violence and harmful practices. Achieving UNFPA's transformative goals requires diversification of the Agency's funding beyond its traditional donors.

UNFPA's Strategic Partnerships Branch (SPB) within the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships (DCS) is leading corporate efforts to expand UNFPA's strategic  partnerships with the private sector and to mobilize resources from non-traditional partners.

The JPO will support the Design and development of partnerships and Fundraising activities, with a specific focus on scouting and engaging the portfolio of Foundations. The role holder will support the 4 development of Foundations segmentation strategies based on research and Analysis of giving trends. (S)he will support the management of relationships with these stakeholders. The post holder will also support managing the strategic partnerships donors database, producing on-going analysis and monitoring campaign results to inform future fundraising activities.

Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development On 25 September, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the Resolution 70/1, Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This historic document lays out the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to mobilize global efforts to end poverty, foster peace, safeguard the rights and dignity of all people, and protect the planet.

Content and methodology of supervision:

As part of the UNFPA JPO programme overall framework, the JPO will benefit from the following supervision modalities:
  • Structured guidance provided by the supervisor, especially in the beginning of the assignment, with the purpose of gradually increasing the responsibilities of the JPO
  • Establishment of a work plan, with clear key results
  • Effective supervision through knowledge sharing and performance/development feedback throughout the assignment
  • Easy access to the supervisor
  • Participation in Unit/Team/Office meetings to ensure integration and operational effectiveness
  • Guidance and advice in relation to learning and training opportunities within the field of expertise
  • If more than one supervisor; clear agreement of the roles and responsibilities between the relevant parties
  • Annual performance appraisal and development with the supervisor (PAD).
Training and Learning:

  • Develop and manage large scale global campaigns campaigns communicating the impact of the organization’s work to mass audiences.
  • Monitor progress of the programme against key performance indicators.
  • Work with and manage client relationship management software.
  • Prepare annual workplans and budgets.
  • Develop business case for investment in projects based on cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop market entry and resource mobilization strategies at global, regional and country levels.
Duties and Responsibilities

Private strategic partners’ acquisition and Stewardship
  • Contribute to the design and development of strategic partnerships and products with a focus on fundraising from Foundations and Philantropic institutions
  • Develop a strategic Mapping of philanthropic stakeholders functional to partnerships around the three transformative results
  • Support the Strategic Partnerships Branch Team’s efforts to identify and engage new shared-value and corporate partners, also in collaboration with Regional and Country offices.
  • Develop high-value pitch proposals for funding in support of UNFPA initiatives
  • Support the account management of existing high value partnerships with the aim of strengthening and nurturing value partnerships.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to support and inform the delivery of results for the Branch and internal communication on SPB’s performance Support establishment of high value strategic partnerships with private sector

Required Skills and Experience


  • Postgraduate degree in marketing, communications, journalism, international relations, economics, business Administration/management, social sciences or a related fields.
Working experience: 

  • At least 2 years of experience in partnership building, fundraising, External Relations, marketing, communications in an international NGO or private sector. Prior experience in developing countries is an asset.

Excellent knowledge of oral and written Korean and English language (a)  MOFA will test shortlisted candidates for Korean proficiency (b)  A minimum of iBT TOEFL score of 107 or NEW TEPS score of 452 or TEPS score of 800.

Not older than 32 years of age as of 31st December of 2020 (Born after Jan. 1 1988) (The maximum age limit for those who served in the military will be extended accordingly) Male applicants should complete the Korean military service or be exempted from it. The maximum age limit for those who served in the military will be extended in accordance with the ‘Support for Discharged Soldiers Act’ and the military service law.

  • Age limit for male candidates who have completed the service: Less than one year will be extended for one year;
  • one year above and two years under will be extended for two years;
  • two years or more will be extended for three years.
