Job Description

Position Summary Working under the guidance and direction of the Epidemic Control Lead based in Bujumbura for the RISE project in Burundi, the Pediatric & Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) Advisor will oversee the implementation of pediatric and PMTCT programming particularly new strategies for reaching HIV epidemic control in in Kirundo, Ngozi, and Kayanza Provinces. S/he will provide technical and implementation guidance and oversight to the Epidemic Control Officer at the provincial level, district and site level, liaising with partners and local organizations. Major duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the technical Design, planning, implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation of a variety of interventions related to Pediatric HIV care, treatment, and PMTCT, including but not limited to the expansion of early infant diagnosis, adolescent programs including establishing adolescent friendly services at selected health facilities, pediatric tuberculosis, and nutritional rehabilitation program

  • Pilot innovative strategies to improve the pediatric, adolescent and PMTCT quality of care services

  • Ensure hiv care and treatment data are correctly captured and assist with routine data Analysis

  • Review high frequency reports, monthly and quarterly reports and assist with preparing regular progress reports

  • Coordinate training and mentorship of facility staff

  • Supervise the Epidemic Control Officers at each of the RISE-Burundi provinces and the Laboratory Officer at Ngozi Province

  • Contribute to the development of job aids and other practical tools particularly algorithms, training materials and tools for improving the quality of care of pediatric and PMTCT services

  • Regularly evaluate the systems put in place as part of care and provide corrective measures in case of need

  • Assist in program monitoring and evaluation

  • Participate in SIMS remedial action plan development and follow up

  • Collaborate with the Epidemic Control Lead to support a complete package of services at all RISE-supported facilities

  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications / Professional Requirements
  • MBBS or international equivalent

  • A Master of Public Health is an added advantage

  • At least 3 years of experience in supporting pediatric and PMTCT services

Experience and Skills
  • Experience in training, supervision and mentoring of other clinicians

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop good relationships with government and non-government partners, clinicians and other staff at supported sites

  • Ability to develop and manage program activities and budgets

  • Ability to set priorities, set appropriate deadlines and respect them

  • Experience in an international organization

  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Fluent in French and English

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Sense of initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment

  • Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences

  • Exhibits a positive and professional demeanor in and outside of the workplace that exemplifies and furthers the mission, vision and values of the program

Travel Requirements
  • Frequent travel within Burundi conducting site visits
