Job Description

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance. Background International Medical Corps nutrition program focus mainly on treatment of acute malnutrition and prevention of malnutrition, through Infant and Young Child Feeding program. The interventions are through health facility and at community level through community health volunteers all supporting the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP). The projects implementation is in Al Dhale’e, Taiz, Sanaa, Ibb and Lahj governorates, of Yemen. Job Purpose International Medical Corps (IMC) seeks an experienced Nutrition Cluster Co-Chair, based in the South of Yemen-Aden Nutrition Cluster Co-Chair, will be working closely with cluster coordinator (UNICEF) supporting partners in the South of Yemen to ensure a coordinated nutrition response by all partners. Key roles include; Informing strategic decision-making of the HC/HCT for the humanitarian response, planning and implementation of cluster strategies, monitoring and evaluating nutrition response, building national capacity in preparedness and contingency planning, advocacy and ensuring Accountability to Affected Population. Main Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Strengthen pre-existing sectoral coordination by maintaining appropriate links and dialogue with national and local authorities, local civil society and other relevant actors, respecting their respective mandates and program priorities. Taking reasonable measures to proactively engage with and support local NGOs to participate in cluster coordination and at each phase of the Humanitarian Program Cycle. Ensuring that the Nutrition Subnational Cluster position is informed by partners’ perspective.

  • Support Nutrition needs assessments with the Nutrition partners and other sectors, but not limited to, WASH Nutrition, Food Security and Protection.

  • Contribute effectively to Inter-Cluster coordination fora and cooperate with other clusters, Government counterparts, and relevant authorities (as appropriate) in planning, coordination, and operational activities, ensuring that the NGO community is contributing to and sharing responsibilities.

  • Ensure protection and early recovery are mainstreamed and awareness of the different needs and capacities of women, girls, boys and men of all ages, people with disabilities, and other diversity characteristics such as ethnicity and religion are informing what we do, how we do it and with whom to promote meaningful access, safety and dignity in all phases of the Nutrition sector response.

  • Participate actively in gap analysis, priority setting reinforcing the complementary of partner actions by avoiding duplication and gaps.

  • Ensure adequate reporting and effective information sharing, reflecting the agreed minimum standards are in place and that all partners contribute on a regular basis to enable appropriate monitoring and evaluation and review the impact of the cluster activities and progress against the strategic Nutrition Sub-national Cluster objectives.

  • Convene and facilitate regular meetings as agreed with other team members, ensuring that discussions are participatory and results-oriented. Ensure that the NGO partners of the cluster are kept fully informed of the meetings and any decisions that may take place outside of regular Nutrition Sub-national Cluster meetings.

  • Promote the leadership roles of NGOs within the cluster and ensure that the technical working groups has active national and international NGO participation to help ensure that NGOs support and influence the clusters work.

  • Promote/support training and capacity building of Nutrition sector personnel, of partners and national authorities.

  • Represent the interests of the Nutrition sub national Cluster in discussions with stakeholders on priorities, resource mobilization and advocacy. Taking additional steps to ensure that the resource mobilization and advocacy efforts fairly represents and benefits NGOs as well as the UN agencies in support of the agreed strategy.

  • Master in Public health nutrition or equivalent in Nutrition/Public Health from recognized learning institution plus 5 years of experience in related field or Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field of study with 7 years of experience in related field (minimum 3 years in emergency response setting)

Experience
  • International experience.

  • One year or more experience leading nutrition cluster working groups or functioning as cluster lead or co-lead

  • Proven experience in managing emergency nutrition programs including CMAM, IYCF, SBC in multiple locations

  • Experience in facilitation of trainings and workshops

  • Experience in writing / developing project proposals and project reports

  • Ability to motivate and counsel staff working in a complex emergency environment.
