  • Provide technical leadership in epidemiology and serve as technical lead for epidemiological support in relation to implementation activities.

  • Provide Technical Support to Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) programs to secure that disease specific assessments (DSA) are planned and executed per WHO guidelines and best practices.

  • Provide technical support to NTD Programs for a sound and timely execution of MDAs.

  • Assist Ministries of Health (MOHs) in the development and execution of post stop-MDA and post-elimination surveillance plans for LF, trachoma and oncho.

  • Assist MOHs in the execution of periodical Data Quality Assessments (DQA) to improve reporting and Monitoring and Evaluation systems and Programs Quality Improvements (PQI) to increase project effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Support the MOHs on organizing national databases for NTDs diseases.

  • Support the development and implementation of plans for Schistosomiasis/ Soil-Transmitted Helminths (SCH/STH) transition plans after LF platform no longer available.

  • Collaborate with FHI 360 in the conceptualization and implementation of policies that enable the “mainstreaming” of NTDs programs into the national health system.

  • Coordinate with FHI 360 the needs for short term technical assistance to build technical capacity of the MOH NTDs programs.

  • Participate in technical, Coordination and policy meetings proposed by CDC, USAID, WHO and others as appropriate.

  • Identify areas for improved efficiency or effectiveness within prescribed parameters, and institutes enhancements to procedures.

  • Maintain a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with field counterparts and technical staff of implementing partners.

  • Develop and maintains collaborative relationships with donor/client organizations, relevant government agencies, bilateral and other NGOs.

  • Develop tools for the Design and implementation of specific technical components.

  • Ensure that project implementation adheres to the appropriate global strategy and remains technically sound.

  • Develop strategies and tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components.

  • Ensure the quality of implemented technical activities and systems at all levels.

  • Represent the organization and/or Institute to external entities at professional meetings and conferences.

  • Continually maintain a dialogue and technical exchange with field counterparts and technical staff of implementing partners.

  • Coordinate with employees and consultants, on-site and in the field for situations that is less routine and more unusual.

  • Strategic focus for all programs independent of degree of complexity.

Experience:
  • 11+ Years of experience in Epidemiology and implementation of surveillance programs for NTDs and/or other Infectious Diseases.

  • Informed of current program developments in NTDs surveillance.

  • Written and published materials related to technical area e.g., journal articles, job aids, training curricula, and other tools.

  • Experience in specialized technical/medical field of study.

  • Experience working in developing countries.

  • Fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese an asset.

Education: Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent • Epidemiology, Public Health, Behavioral, Life/Social Sciences International Development or Related Field; PhD preferred. ** Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job. Technology to be Used: Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer, calculator, copier, cell phones, PDAs and other hand-held devices. Travel Requirements: 25%-50% Typical Physical Demands:
  • Typical office environment.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift 5-25 lbs.
