Job Description

Organizational Setting The Forestry Department ensures the development of policies, strategies and guidelines and provides advisory and technical services to FAO Members. It collects, analyses, disseminates information to FAO Members, and serves as a neutral forum for policy and technical dialogue between nations on matters related to forests.  The Department promotes the FAO mission in forestry, which is to enhance human well-being through support to member countries in the sustainable management of the world's trees and forests. The post is located in the Office of the Director-general" id="link" class="link">Assistant Director-general, FOD. Reporting Lines The Knowledge and Information Management Officer reports to the Senior Forestry Officer, Statutory Bodies, CPF and Outreach. Technical Focus Support the FO Statutory Bodies, CPF and Outreach Team. Key Results Contribute to the development and strengthening of the knowledge and information management's activities in the Organization. Key Functions • Contributes towards the Design, planning and organization of knowledge and information management as well as knowledge sharing activities; • Contributes towards and implement strategies for engagement with external partner organizations and relevant FAO technical units, with the objective of establishing functional collaboration mechanisms for the joint development and dissemination of knowledge and information products, as well as Capacity Development activities; • Reviews technical lessons learned through the provision of methodological guidance and/or facilitation of multi-stakeholder workshops with technical units, decentralized offices and partner organizations; • Develops and prepares relevant documentation as well as training materials; • Supports the preparation and organization of meetings, seminars and workshops, attends Coordination meetings and represents FAO  in knowledge and information management activity work groups; • Drafts plans, policies and procedures for the design, implementation and maintenance of knowledge and information management as well as capacity development activities, procedures and systems. Specific Functions • Coordinates the editing, design, production and dissemination of the Department's main publications and associated products, including digital products; • Writes and edits technical and policy-related informational materials, including editorials, press releases, web stories, statements, speeches, and presentations; • Supports publication planning and contributes to development and dissemination of publications and other information and knowledge related products and outreach materials and activities of the Department and its Teams; • Supports further development and implementation of knowledge management and outreach strategies and processes, including capture, transferring and sharing of knowledge through digital technologies; • Carries out tasks in compliance with FAO editing standards (FAO style, FAO terminology and names of countries); • Carries out any other tasks assigned to him or her related to information and knowledge management. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING   Minimum Requirements • Advanced university degree in knowledge management, communication, social science, journalism, political science or a related field • Five years of relevant experience in knowledge and information management and/or outreach in international organizations, or in private enterprises including experience in developing countries • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) Competencies • Results Focus • Teamwork • Communication • Building Effective Relationships • Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement Technical/Functional Skills • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable • Extent and relevance of experience in managing and editing publications and their dissemination, including in digital formats. • Extent and relevance of experience in drafting high-quality written materials for a wide variety of audiences. • Extent and relevance of experience in use of digital technologies for different information channels and audiences, including in support to large-scale conferences or meetings. •   Working knowledge of French or Spanish is considered an asset.
