ABOUT THE POST The HRMOF team is searching for a Junior Front-end Developer to contribute to HR’s ongoing transformation within the World Food Programme. As part of this transformation, the HRMOF team, which facilitates the effectively deployment of talent during emergencies, is working on developing a HR Emergency Rosters & Deployments portal. This web-based application will allow better end-user experiences, improvements in internal processes, and a one-stop-shop for tracking and managing deployments during an emergency. The consultant is required to work remotely with possible travels to Rome. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
  1. Under the guidance of the lead developer(s) and Project Manager, participate in the development and testing of minor features and functionality.

  2. Participate in bug tracking and bug resolution of the web-based HR Emergency Rosters & Deployments portal and other systems.

  3. Develop user interfaces based on WFP’s UI kit.

  4. Conduct unit, regression and performance testing. Develop test scripts for end-users if needed.

  5. Participate in requirement gathering sessions and Design sessions to ensure and validate system capability and design.

  6. Work collaboratively with the HR team to understand business requirements, conceptualize innovative website design ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness and contribute to identifying creative solutions.

  7. Work in alignment with the in-house team of developers to ensure any developments are coherently integrated with other corporate technology platforms.

  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience as web developer, Javascript frameworks.

  • Degree in Computer Science, or related field of study.

  • Fluency in oral and written English.

  • Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is preferred.

  • Web Application Development Experience in front-end UI development ReactJS (single page applications), JavaScript, HTML5.

  • Good knowledge of Database and Data modelling.

  • Knowledge of Git and best practices for merging, branching, and pull requests.

  • Experience working within Agile development environments.

  • Experience through the different stages of Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Experience with RESTful Web APIs, VSCode/ Jira/ Azure DevOps is a PLUS.

  • Knowledge with WFP UX/UI is a PLUS.

  • Knowledge of Unit Testing and Test-Driven Development is a PLUS.

  • Strong Problem Solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent and demonstrated capability to work collaboratively within a team.

  • Ability to work independently (and remotely) with minimal supervision.
