IDB Invest – Investment Management Lead Officer – Trade & Supply Chain Finance Are you passionate about supporting the origination, structuring, negotiation, approval and closing of investment transactions in the Latin American region to have a positive impact in the lives of millions? Background The Investment Operations Department is responsible for generating a portfolio of high quality, creditworthy, and environmentally and socially sound projects that result in significant development impact. The business cycle goes from the identification, selection, origination, structuring and execution of transactions to their monitoring. The Department follows a matrix model, with three Segment divisions covering Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates, and three transversal areas such as the Financial Products and Services Division, the Advisory Services Division and the Portfolio Management Division. The team The Financial Products and Services Division oversees transactions in blended finance, capital markets, equity and mezzanine, and structure trade and supply chain finance. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Trade & Supply Chain Finance team. What you will do The candidate’s main responsibilities include:
  • Leading the origination, structuring, negotiation and execution of trade and supply chain finance transactions.

  • Working closely with the Relationship Banker (Sectors teams) to develop structure trade and supply chain finance client strategic account plans taking into consideration our customers and market needs.

  • Credit analysis and structure financing solutions for our corporate selected client list by industry sectors.

  • To carry and conduct negotiations with internal stakeholders, front- middle - back offices, contract review related to on boarding process for the current and future for clients and suppliers and buyers into to SAE (Strategic Approved Entities ), like; Banks, Fintechs like and other relevant counter parties) for business.

  • Supporting the expansion of the Business Model into other areas such as commodity and asset-based lending, specialized senior and junior secured financing, structure accounts receivable financing, purchase order financing, and others supply chain financing for a wide range of Corporates / Multilatinas throughout the LAC region.

  • Overseeing all aspects of the products launch strategy, including product specifications, pricing, underwriting strategies, operational processes, compliance, risk management, technology and vendor needs (Fintechs, insurance co, banks and non-bank FIs), etc.

  • Coordinating the work and providing technical advice to Investment Management Officers (Relationship Bankers) engaged in the approval and closing of structure that could replicate and scale.

  • Providing leadership, coaching, mentoring and support to team members.

  • Identifying new structured trade and supply chain finance opportunities for IDB Invest as well as third-party support for IDB Invest-led transactions.

  • Assessing the viability of initial trade and supply chain finance operations, consistent with IDB Invest priorities and the "additionality" provided by IDB Invest's participation. These involve increasing Access to Finance for value chain participants by improving the capacity of relevant counterparties (including FIs) and other participants of supply chains (aggregators) by improving their capacity and access to markets.

  • Working closely with the Advisory Services Division to enhance the sustainability of IDB Invest’s Trade and Supply Chain Finance clients and solutions.

  • Maintaining relationships with strategic client list aligned with Sectors, potential clients and other partners, while identifying opportunities for the worldwide expansion of the programs.

  • Keeping abreast of industry dynamics, innovations being introduced in the trade and supply chain financing market by competitors and of developments in Regional countries impacting the programs. Sharing market intelligence across the segment and the IDBG as relevant.

  • Providing support for the development of IDBG Country Strategies and IDB Invest’s multi-year Business Plans in relation to trade and supply chain finance.

  • Overseeing the preparation of lessons learned related to the programs within and outside the IDBG. Disseminating information to project teams on transaction strengths, weaknesses, risks and risk mitigation options.

  • Being recognized in the market as an expert in trade and supply chain finance and representing IDB Invest on the topics in industry related events and activities.

  • Mediation of legal credit agreements, revising of drafts, promissory notes, letters of credit, and other instruments

  • Maintain a strict portfolio management control; interact with business development units for reporting purposes

  • Being a center of expertise and advisory within the bank for product, credit policies and unfunded credit protection, properly coordinate with Mobilization team, with insurance brokers and insurance underwriters.

Education: You hold at least a Master’s, MBA, or equivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, International Development or relevant field. Experience: At least six (6) years of professional relevant experience relevant professional experience in banking, loan origination, credit analysis, structuring or portfolio management with a validates track-record in trade and supply chain finance operations. In-depth knowledge of trade and supply finance products such as letters of credit, demand guarantees issuance, import and export finance agreements, receivables financing and the associated IT systems and platforms. Previous experience negotiating credit agreements with corporate and commercial clients, multilaterals, export credit agencies, other FIs and legal advisors. Understanding of client needs and challenges, of different country/regional areas, market idiosyncrasies, and drivers of change in Latin America and the Caribbean. Proven experience in a similar role in an investment firm or bank would be desirable. Languages: You are proficient in oral and written English and Spanish.   Opportunity summary:
