Organisational Setting and Reporting
The duration of an ESCWA internship varies between two to six months on a full time basis. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Director of the respective Division.
Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship.
ESCWA accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, upon being awarded an internship, candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of the conditions of service.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
This internship is located within the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The intern reports directly to the Secretary of the Commission.
Responsibilities
The intern will be supporting the Office of the Executive Secretary substantively and administratively, and will be responsible for carrying out the following:

- Assist in conducting substantive policy research and reviews related to the work of the Office;
- Prepare background notes, talking points and policy briefs for meetings, missions and other events attended by Office staff;
- Research, draft and update country profiles and other background documents in preparation for high-level meetings and other events;
- Review, translate and edit documents as required;
- Provide support to on-going OES projects;
- Attend and take notes at meetings, conferences and other events; assist in the preparation of summaries and reports of discussions;
- Assist in other ad-hoc activities as instructed
