FHI 360’s Civil Society and Peacebuilding Department (CSPB) supports citizens to mobilize effectively to influence policy, improve lives, and build peace. CSPB works with civil society to increase its credibility, visibility and effectiveness by building its capacity to:
  • Engage with local government to increase its responsiveness to citizen needs;

  • Solve community problems, engage youth in civic affairs, and provide needed services to citizens;

  • Advocate for social justice, democratic reforms, human rights, and effective policies;

  • Leverage and/or produce media content, such as for online, radio, and television, to promote social dialogue and tolerance; and

  • Promote peaceful solutions to conflict and support peace negotiations.

Job Summary: FHI 360 has an exciting opportunity for an internship in Civil Society and Peacebuilding and International Development. Under guidance of supervisor the Intern will perform professional duties which will provide the opportunity for practical experience and exposure to our non-profit organizational structure. This internship experience will apply assistance and support to projects and business development efforts related to positive youth development, conflict sensitivity training, USAID program and policy research, and youth civic engagement and community service learning modules and materials in Tunisia and DRC. This internship will be a virtual, paid opportunity for a 10-14 week period. The internship is expected to be a full-time role but will allow for a flexible work schedule. Responsibilities: The intern may support the team or project under the direction of their supervisor in the following ways: Support project implementation
  • Provide project teams with logistical and operational support to implement project activities and organize events;

  • Maintain databases, conduct research, and assist with writing and editing assignments for programmatic methodologies and materials as needed;

  • Prepare documents, reports and briefing materials for consultants, staff and clients;

  • Prepare and support procurement of goods and services to implement project activities;

  • Help accurately and regularly track documentation and reports; and

Support business development efforts
  • Support identification of, and outreach to, potential bidding partners;

  • Set up and confirm meetings with potential partners and clients on behalf of staff conducting capture and proposal development;

  • Help prepare materials, such as one-pagers and briefs, on relevant topics about FHI 360 projects and initiatives;

  • Conduct desk research and analysis related to proposal technical areas and geographies;

  • Assist with the collection of basic cost and pricing inputs for budgets;

  • Support writing of technical, management and annex sections of proposal efforts, as directed;

  • Work on other new business development tasks as needed and as directed.

Qualifications and Skills:
  •  Bachelor’s degree in social science or other relevant field.  Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program focused on International Affairs or related field preferred.

  • 1 year experience related to one or more of the following areas of international development:  conflict sensitivity; peacebuilding; youth engagement and positive youth development; preventing violent extremism; and civil society strengthening.

  • Ability to work independently and perform multiple tasks;

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based research;

  • Understanding of global development issues and experience in multi-cultural settings;

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and colleagues;

  • Proven writing and analytical skills;

  • Fluent in English; Proficiency in French and/or Arabic highly desirable.

  • Ability to lift 5-50 lbs
