Job Description

This position is located in the Core Operations Unit (COU), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Supervisor (chief), COU, and under the overall guidance of the Chief of ITS. Responsibilities

• Design, install, configure, test and deploy ICT security related server hardware, software and systems, including their operating systems (Check Point R8x, Linux, etc.). • Perform Administration, Technical Support and monitoring of ICT Security Services; Undertake complex trouble-shooting and basic forensics (in case of an incidence) of server and security systems on Cisco and Checkpoint component-based LAN/WAN infrastructures; Draft documentation and reports; Perform 24x7 operations of assigned systems; Assist in identifying the need for new systems or re-engineering of the existing systems; Respond to requests from users and offices and assists in deploying and configuring systems so as to conform to infrastructure standards; Maintain system documentation; • Work with Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), common vulnerability analysis tools like NMap and Nessus, and perform TCP/IP packet level diagnoses. Perform regular security tests (e.g. Penetration Testing). Support other ICT stakeholders to identify security risks and work on mitigation strategies. • Receive and log problem calls or service requests in the automated tracking system with minimum delay. Diagnose and resolve any hardware, software, or connectivity problem with minimum delay. Act as problem escalation point for technical staff at lower levels. Keep abreast of developments in technology both in the UN and in the industry in general; Keep abreast of relevant ICT UN Security Policies. • Monitor inventory levels of required equipment and initiate procurement when low thresholds are reached. Recommend acquisition of hardware, software, devices, tools, etc. to facilitate work. • Perform any other work-related duties as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Post-secondary studies in ICT security is highly desirable. Industry certification, such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Checkpoint Security Engineer (CCSE) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification is highly desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant and progressively responsible experience as a network/system/security administrator/engineer working in large international organizations, service providers or large enterprise environments is required. Five years of hands-on technical experience with security technologies is required. Operating experience is required in these areas: Check Point R8x enterprise multi-layer firewall systems, VPN technologies, IDS systems, Encryption and Authentication concepts, Web load balancer concepts, Switches and Routers. Experience in Network and System Administration tasks in a mixed-vendor environment is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical test and a competency-based interview.

Other Skills and Requirements

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat.
