Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam and located in Trieste (Italy), the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. ICTP has been a major force in stemming the scientific brain drain from the developing world. For more than 50 years, ICTP has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world.
Under the overall guidance of the Head of ICTS and under the immediate supervision of the Systems and Network Analyst, the incumbent will be responsible for all print, scan and copy equipment, and for the monitoring and technical tasks regarding equipment related to the IT data center, and will be part of the support team providing 1st and 2nd level support to the users of the ICTS infrastructure and applications, as well as part of the audio / video support team for the scientific activities and seminars. Essential responsibilities include:
- Provide monitoring and in-house user support related to:
all print, scan and copy facilities of the Centre. Communicate with service providers regarding technical issues, service levels and improvements
data center equipment including servers, switches, HPC equipment as well as first-level support for backup power equipment and cooling system/equipment
- Communicate with service providers regarding issues, service levels and improvements.
Provide support related to both audio / video equipment and HPC equipment for the various congress, workshops, lectures and training activities.
Provide 1st and 2nd level user support team and resolve issues related to networking, clients/servers (Windows, Apple OS & Linux).
Collaborate with various ICTP offices and groups in order to troubleshoot and resolve inter-departmental technical issues.
- Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational school.
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in the end user support and with diagnostic tools.
- Excellent knowledge of technologies related to printers / copiers / scanning equipment, servers, switches, and HPC equipment.
- Basic knowledge of other data center equipment including cooling and power systems
- Very good analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify issues and provide options.
- Initiative and service-oriented to provide quality and timely support and services.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of English.
- Relevant experience in an international environment.
- Good working knowledge (spoken and written) of Italian.
