Job Description

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment. Under the direct supervision of Regional Evaluation Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
  1. Support implementation of ESAR 2018-21 Regional Evaluation Strategy:

  • Technical Support and evaluation quality assurance during evaluation cycle e.g. development of evaluation plans, quality review of draft evaluation products etc.

  • Support data Analysis for UNW Country Portfolio Evaluations

  • Provide regional evaluation oversight through tracking Evaluation Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Act as regional focal person for UNW Global Accountability and Tracking of Evaluation Use (GATE) System

  • Support programme formulation processes incl. support to development of results frameworks and ToCs from evaluability perspective

  1. Strengthen evaluation use in East and Southern Africa Region:

  • Develop evaluation knowledge products based on aggregate analysis of evaluations

  • Visualize evaluation narratives with infographics, layout work etc.

  • Engage in evaluation knowledge sharing and communication e.g. through organizing webinars etc.

  • Support integration of lessons in programme Design and follow-up to evaluation management responses

  1. Support delivery of Capacity Building events on Gender Responsive Evaluation for staff and partners:

  • Support roll-out of UNW e-learning on gender-responsive evaluation

  • Regional engagement with partners on evaluation Capacity Development

  1. Support UN Coordination on Gender Responsive Evaluation:

  • Technical support to UNDAF / UNSDCF evaluations

  • Engagement in Nairobi inter-agency Evaluation Network

  1. The National Specialist will perform other related duties and assignments as and when required.

Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • A Bachelor’s degree in political or Social Science, Economics, International Development Studies, Gender/Women's Studies or related field. Advanced University degree in Monitoring and Results Based Management is an advantage.

  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.

60 Months
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Programming experience in international development

  • Experience related to UN Women’s mandate, Gender and Human Rights issues an asset

Functional Competencies:
  • Knowledge of UN context and topics: Basic knowledge of the role of the UN Agencies, funds and programs;

  • Comprehensive experience in Monitoring & Evaluation;

  • Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative Data Collection and analysis;

  • Wide-ranging experience with relevant software packages for Data Analysis e.g. NVIVO, MS Office applications and for Data Visualization;

  • Good skills in quality assurance of evaluation reports regarding structure, content and analysis;

  • Excellent skills to write clear, concise and compelling analytical documents and to synthesize large amounts of quantitative and qualitative information.

  • Good design and communication skills including data visualization using infographics, charts, graphs etc.

  • Excellent team player who can work in mixed teams exhibiting patience, courtesy, and respect for others and their ideas

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
