In 2020, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced the creation of a new Gender Equality Division to accelerate progress for women and girls globally. The past two years have seen an unprecedented confluence of energy on this issue, and we have a greater understanding than ever before on the centrality of gender to all development outcomes embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the leadership of the inaugural President, Anita Zaidi, the Gender Equality Division signals our intent to fully maximize our voice and our co-chairs’ commitment to accelerate impact on gender equality. Reporting to the President of the Gender Equality Division, the Director of Women’s Economic Empowerment will combine a passion for gender equality with expertise in economic empowerment, Financial Services for low-income populations, social Entrepreneurship, digital technology, or a combination of the above.  We are seeking someone who has delivered real impact in the lives of people around the world and has the capacity to enable an ecosystem committed to gender equality at the foundation. The successful candidate will have a track record of effective leadership and management, including responsibility for diverse and dispersed teams in a matrixed and/or rapidly changing environment. We will prioritize candidates who can demonstrate a strategic and analytical approach and have a vision for what can be accomplished leveraging the platform of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  You do not need to come from the gender field, but you must have a track record of incorporating a practice of Gender Mainstreaming into your applied specialism. A background and skillset in evaluating experimental approaches to Women’s Economic Empowerment in low ad middle income countries is highly desirable for this role.
