Job Description

Under the administrative supervision of the UN Clinic Physician/Health Manager, and direct supervision of the Head Nurse, the incumbent will be responsible for performing required routine clinical tasks/procedures in connection with the health assessment and treatment to ensure that identified personnel and dependents are medically fit in accordance with the medical/health requirements of the duty station.

Under the overall direction of designated official at WHO, administrative and direct supervision of the UN Clinic Physician/Health Manager of the UN Gambia Clinic, the incumbent shall:

  • Perform laboratory tests, chemistry and hematology to determine cause of disease or complaint.

  • Organize specimen labeling, logging and sorting for appropriate laboratory processes

  • Track record of maintaining quality results through running standardized controls

  • Handle routine maintenance by calibrating lab equipment using approved procedures

  • Identify abnormal patient conditions through thorough lab testing activities

  • Collect and receive blood, tissue and urine samples and prepare them for testing purposes

  • Store samples under controlled situations owing to deep understanding of specimen preparation and storage

  • Analyze and record test results appropriately to issue correlating reports in graphical and narrative forms

  • Collect samples from staff for Covid -19 PCR processing at the national Public Health Laboratory and follow up on results.

  • Verify availability of laboratory supplies and record Quality Control charts for equipment and reagents

  • Performs other duties as required.

Language Requirements: Fluency in both written and spoken English.
