JOB TYPE This vacancy is a consultancy position and you must have the right to work in Thailand JOB PURPOSE To lead on all aspects of language and production planning, Coordination and delivery in the Asia-Pacific Region, and provide Translation coordination support to other regional and global teams as requirements arise. To build capacity in the region’s sections and national offices, and feed into the Language Resource Centre ‘service offering’ strategy to ensure it is aligned with local and regional requirements. ABOUT YOU MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES * As a member of the Language Desk Team, ensure effective provision of translation and interpreting services to the Asia-Pacific Regional Offices, working closely with teams to assess requirements and with the LRC to understand the services that can be provided and to commission these services * Provide translation coordination support to other regional and global teams as requirements arise and contribute to LRC administrative systems and procedures * Promote the integration of language strategy in project planning at Regional Office level through participating in relevant Asia-Pacific Regional Offices team meetings regarding upcoming projects and acting as the single point of contact for language queries in the region, building an awareness of key dependencies for a smooth translation service including timelines and quality of original content * Help build and maintain networks of local Freelance translators with guidance from the LRC’s Head of Translation, arrange contracts and ensure prompt payment in line with IS procurement policy. * In collaboration with the Head of Interpretation and Internal Language Policy and/or other Interpretation Unit members, coordinate projects and ensure that upcoming assignments are adequately services in alignment with LRC guidelines and standards of best practice. * Contribute to and feed in to the Language Resource Centre ‘service offering’ strategy to ensure it is aligned with local and regional requirements. * Work with sections to analyse their language requirements and identify opportunities for supporting sections, with limited resources, by sharing best practices and setting up processes for sharing translations for example * Ensure translations under their remit are uploaded to the website and to Amnesty’s Document Management system as required, with training from the relevant teams. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Translation and Production * A high level of multilingual production expertise, gained through extensive experience working with translation experts on multiple types of documents * Extensive experience of maintaining and developing systems to monitor and coordinate translation activities, including up to date details for all supplier contracts, and maintaining records of project expenditure * Experience of negotiating costs with suppliers, as well as drafting contracts, monitoring work in progress and ensuring efficient delivery of contracted work * Experience of balancing conflicting priorities, identifying problems and negotiating with colleagues to solve them * Experience of monitoring budgets, providing estimates for projects and monitoring expenditure against budget * Ability to advise global and regional teams on translation planning, processes and standards Organizational skills * Experience of organizing one's own work without supervision, and reporting on progress to line manager * Ability to coordinate the work of a team based in multiple locations Other * Abilit write and speak English fluently is essential, good knowledge of one or more regional languages is desirable * Demonstrated communication, influencing and negotiation skills * Ability to build collaborative working relationships and perform effectively across ABOUT US Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where Human Rights are enjoyed by all.
