The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization that supports countries in their efforts to achieve sustainable development, climate resilience, and inclusive governance. Established in 1965, UNDP operates in approximately 170 countries and territories, working to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities through sustainable development. The organization collaborates with governments, communities, and development partners to address key challenges, including climate change, and to promote locally led solutions that contribute to resilient and sustainable development.

Job Overview:
The Monitoring and Reporting Officer will play a crucial role in the Addressing Climate Vulnerability in the Water Sector (ACWA) project, which aims to enhance the resilience of water resources and supply systems in the Marshall Islands against climate change impacts. This position involves providing day-to-day support to the project team, focusing on monitoring activities, maintaining project information, and preparing reports. The Officer will be responsible for tracking project activities, compiling data, and assisting in the preparation of updates and reports for internal reviews and steering committee meetings. The role requires close collaboration with project staff, government counterparts, and partners to ensure effective monitoring and reporting of project progress and results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Officer's duties include maintaining tracking sheets for project activities, collecting and compiling project information and data, assisting in updating monitoring tools and databases, and supporting regular monitoring of project activities. The Officer will flag any delays or gaps in information, assist in preparing quarterly updates, compile data for reports, and maintain an organized electronic filing system. Additionally, the Officer will document feedback and requests from stakeholders, assist with monitoring visits and data collection, and support the project team in documenting lessons learned and challenges. The role also involves updating the project results framework and tracking progress against indicators, as well as supporting other monitoring, reporting, and administrative tasks as assigned by the Project Manager.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in data collection and analysis, as well as experience with monitoring and reporting processes, is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate effective communication skills and a results-oriented approach, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and respect for diversity in the workplace.

Educational Background:
A background in environmental science, social sciences, project management, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of climate change issues, particularly as they relate to water management and sustainability.

Experience:
The position requires prior experience in project monitoring and reporting, preferably within the context of development projects. Familiarity with climate change adaptation strategies and water resource management will be advantageous. Experience working in a multicultural environment and with government or community stakeholders is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication for the project. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Marshall Islands would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national volunteer position based in Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands. The living conditions in Majuro are urban but may be constrained by the geographic isolation of the atoll. The volunteer is expected to be familiar with local customs and the community context. Travel to outer islands may be required, necessitating additional logistical planning. The position may involve a full-time commitment, and specific details regarding contract duration and compensation will be provided during the recruitment process.
