Job Overview: The E-T Consultant will play a vital role in supporting the World Bank Group's Infrastructure Vertical, specifically focusing on real estate decarbonization projects. This position involves collaborating with Industry Specialists to conduct technical due diligence on potential and ongoing projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions in real estate. The consultant will assess sustainability strategies, evaluate energy efficiency measures, and provide recommendations for achieving climate goals in line with international standards. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of decarbonization strategies and the ability to analyze and improve existing practices within real estate portfolios. The consultant will also be responsible for reviewing capital expenditure plans and researching relevant regulations that may affect business operations and valuations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties of the E-T Consultant include:
Supporting Industry Specialists in the technical due diligence of real estate decarbonization projects.
Assessing sustainability strategies to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
Evaluating energy efficiency, energy storage, building electrification, and renewable measures for feasibility in DRIVE projects.
Conducting and reviewing baseline assessments for real estate portfolio emissions.
Providing recommendations for clear climate goals, such as achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in accordance with frameworks like the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).
Developing decarbonization strategies and pathways for DRIVE projects.
Recommending methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and optimize energy, water, and material consumption in real estate portfolios.
Reviewing capital expenditure plans to ensure they meet targets, savings, and payback periods.
Researching new regulations that could impact business operations and valuations for clients. 1
Reviewing strategies for maximizing renewable energy options, both on-site and off-site. 1
Establishing frameworks for monitoring and reporting on the progress of the decarbonization roadmap implementation for clients. 1
Performing other related tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainability, energy efficiency, or related fields. They should have experience in conducting technical assessments and developing strategies for decarbonization in real estate. Familiarity with international climate frameworks and regulations is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Strong communication skills are necessary to convey complex information effectively to stakeholders.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree or equivalent advanced qualification in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it demonstrates a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in real estate decarbonization and sustainability practices.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in sustainability consulting, energy efficiency assessments, or real estate management. Experience working with international organizations or in a multi-disciplinary team environment is highly desirable, as it indicates the ability to navigate complex projects and collaborate effectively across different sectors.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the World Bank Group. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions where the projects are implemented, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is financed by a Trust Fund, and its renewal is contingent upon the availability of funding, business needs, and staff performance. The selected candidate's duty station will be determined based on organizational requirements and business needs, with potential locations including New Delhi, India, and Washington DC, USA. The role may involve full-time engagement, and candidates should be prepared for potential international travel as part of their responsibilities.
