Job Overview: The Principal Investment Officer will lead IFC's blended finance activities specifically for Equity, Funds, and Venture Capital (CPV). This role is critical in managing select blended finance facilities and will involve working across various industries and regions in a results-oriented environment. The officer will report to the Senior Manager of Blended Finance and will be responsible for advising investment officers, structuring financial co-investments, and originating business development opportunities in strategic sectors. The position requires a proactive approach to deal processing, supervision of contributor reporting, and engagement in donor fundraising efforts, making it a pivotal role within the Blended Finance and Partnerships Department.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal Investment Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities including: acting as the Global Sector Lead for blended finance projects in CPV, advising investment officers, ensuring quality control for project submissions, structuring co-investments with a focus on equity, and collaborating with mobilization teams. The officer will also be responsible for originating opportunities in high-risk sectors, processing co-investments, coordinating contributor reporting, monitoring project risks, and managing relationships with donors. Additionally, the officer will oversee the governance and reporting of blended finance facilities, lead knowledge management activities, and contribute to the overall management of the blended finance team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an MBA or a Master's degree in finance/investment, with at least 15 years of relevant experience in cross-border emerging-market investments. A strong track record in structuring and executing investment transactions is essential. Familiarity with IFC's investment activities, blended finance principles, and experience with donor engagement and facility management are highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate problem-solving abilities, clarity in communication, and the capacity to manage multiple projects under pressure while maintaining strong interpersonal relationships.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in finance, investment, or a related field is strongly preferred. An equivalent professional qualification may also be considered. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in financial principles and investment strategies, particularly in the context of emerging markets and blended finance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, particularly in cross-border investments within emerging markets. Candidates should have a proven track record in structuring and executing investment transactions, as well as familiarity with the investment and portfolio management processes of the IFC. Experience in managing donor-funded facilities and engaging with stakeholders in complex financial environments is also crucial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. While no additional languages are specified as preferred, proficiency in other languages may be beneficial in engaging with diverse stakeholders across various regions.
