The intern will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO), contributing to the center's communication activities. The role involves producing visual content, assisting in graphic design, and covering events to enhance the visibility of UN campaigns and initiatives. This is an unpaid internship requiring full-time commitment, where the intern will engage in various tasks related to photography, video editing, and graphic design, thereby gaining valuable experience in a dynamic international environment. The internship is initially for three months, with the possibility of extension based on departmental needs and intern availability.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that support the UNIC's communication efforts. These include:
Assisting in the coverage of UN events, campaigns, and activities through photography and video documentation.
Selecting, editing, and organizing visual content in line with UN communication standards.
Creating infographics, social media visuals, and basic graphic materials to promote UN messages.
Adapting visual content for various digital platforms and social media channels.
Engaging in video production and editing tasks to create compelling visual narratives.
Performing any other communication-related tasks as assigned by the CINU, ensuring that the intern contributes effectively to the overall goals of the UNIC.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly Adobe Suite, Canva, CapCut, InShot, VN, and MS Teams. Skills in filming and camera work are essential, along with the ability to draft news articles and social media posts. A basic understanding of graphic design and visual content creation tools is desirable, as is an interest in photography, visual storytelling, and digital communication.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a university degree in or be studying towards a degree in Communication, Graphic Design, or Multimedia. A demonstrated interest in visual communication, digital content, or media production is essential. Applicants must be in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program.
Experience: While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship role. This means that candidates should ideally have practical experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of visual content production, graphic design, or digital communication.
Languages: Fluency in French is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered desirable, which may enhance the candidate's profile and ability to engage with diverse audiences.
