Job Overview:
The Individual Statistician Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security (MAFS) in South Sudan by enhancing agricultural statistics systems and improving agricultural information management. The consultant will be responsible for food security monitoring and sector performance reporting, working closely with ministry staff and development partners. The position requires the consultant to improve data collection, analysis, and dissemination systems, which are essential for evidence-based planning and policy development. The consultant will also be tasked with training various teams within the Ministry of Agriculture, following established guidelines provided by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The overall goal of this assignment is to establish a robust Agricultural Statistical System that encompasses the collection, management, processing, analysis, reporting, dissemination, and archiving of agricultural production, market, food security, and rural development statistics.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Statistician Consultant include:
  • Establishing an Agricultural Statistical System that facilitates the collection, management, processing, analysis, reporting, dissemination, and archiving of agricultural statistics.
  • Conducting capacity building for ministry staff in agricultural statistics, focusing on evidence-based policy formulation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinating data harmonization, integration, and dissemination among MAFS, the NBS, and other macroeconomic data stakeholders, ensuring compliance with national statistical standards and reporting frameworks.
  • Liaising with the Aid Informational Management System on behalf of the Ministry to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Supporting the development of guidelines and protocols for data collection and reporting.
  • Providing technical assistance in the analysis of agricultural data to inform policy decisions.
  • Engaging with development partners to align agricultural statistics initiatives with broader national development goals.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Individual Statistician Consultant position include:
  • A strong background in statistics, agricultural economics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in agricultural statistics, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with statistical software and data management tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Educational Background:

Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Individual Statistician Consultant position includes at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in agricultural statistics, data analysis, and reporting. Experience working with government agencies, international organizations, or NGOs in similar roles is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of successfully implementing statistical systems and capacity-building initiatives.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is proficiency in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders.
