Job Overview:
The Stakeholder Engagement Specialist for Loss and Damage (L&D) Readiness and Planning will play a crucial role in facilitating stakeholder engagement processes related to climate change impacts, particularly focusing on loss and damage. This position requires a deep understanding of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and local communities. The specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance stakeholder participation in L&D discussions, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and integrated into planning processes. The role also involves coordinating workshops, meetings, and consultations to gather input and feedback from stakeholders, thereby fostering a collaborative approach to addressing loss and damage issues.

Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in stakeholder engagement or climate change policy would be an asset.
Experience:
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in stakeholder engagement, climate change adaptation, or disaster risk management is required. Experience working with international organizations or government agencies on climate-related projects is highly desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Samoan or other Pacific languages would be an advantage.
Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role under the procurement process of UNDP. The contract duration and specific terms will be discussed during the selection process. The position is full-time and may require travel within Samoa to engage with stakeholders. Compensation and benefits will be aligned with UNDP standards for individual contractors.

- Develop and implement a stakeholder engagement strategy for loss and damage readiness and planning.
- Facilitate consultations and workshops with stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on loss and damage issues.
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to promote awareness and understanding of loss and damage.
- Prepare reports and documentation summarizing stakeholder inputs and recommendations.
- Ensure that stakeholder engagement processes are inclusive and representative of all affected groups.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement activities and adjust strategies as needed.
- Provide technical support and guidance to stakeholders on loss and damage planning and implementation.
- Liaise with UNDP and other partners to align stakeholder engagement efforts with broader climate change initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, particularly in the context of climate change and disaster risk management.
- Strong understanding of loss and damage concepts and frameworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops and consultations.
- Proficiency in project management and strategic planning.
- Knowledge of relevant policies and frameworks related to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
