Job Overview:
The position of Expert for Development of the SDG Business Pioneers Award Methodology is a critical role within the UNDP framework, aimed at enhancing the engagement of financial institutions in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The expert will be responsible for developing a comprehensive methodology that recognizes and promotes businesses that contribute to the SDGs, particularly in the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This role requires a deep understanding of both the SDGs and the local business landscape, as well as the ability to create frameworks that can effectively measure and reward sustainable business practices. The assignment is expected to last from October 2026 to November 2026, with an estimated level of effort of 12 days. The expert will also be required to travel within Bosnia and Herzegovina to engage with stakeholders and gather necessary insights for the methodology development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the SDG2030BIH Expert include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting a thorough analysis of existing methodologies for recognizing sustainable business practices globally and adapting them to the local context of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders, including financial institutions, businesses, and government entities, to gather insights and feedback on the proposed methodology.
  • Developing a clear and actionable framework for the SDG Business Pioneers Award that aligns with the UNDP's goals and the specific needs of the local market.
  • Preparing detailed documentation and reports outlining the methodology, including criteria for evaluation and recognition of businesses.
  • Presenting the developed methodology to UNDP and relevant stakeholders for approval and feedback.
  • Providing recommendations for the implementation of the award program, including potential partnerships and promotional strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development, business management, or a related field. A proven track record of developing methodologies or frameworks for sustainability initiatives is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with the SDGs and experience working with financial institutions will be considered a significant advantage. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of the local business environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in sustainable development, business administration, economics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in sustainability practices or project management will be considered an asset. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant field will be given preference.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in sustainable development, business consulting, or a related area. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of the UN or similar entities, is highly desirable. Proven experience in developing methodologies or frameworks for sustainability initiatives is crucial, as well as a strong understanding of the SDGs and their application in the business sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the methodology development process. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset.
