Job Overview:
The IDB is seeking an experienced and highly motivated environmental consultant to join its Environmental and Social Solutions Division (VPS/ESG). This role is crucial for ensuring that projects financed by the IDB are socially and environmentally sustainable, adhering to the Bank's Environmental and Social Policy Framework (ESPF). The consultant will work closely with a team of social and environmental professionals, providing technical support and leadership in promoting the Bank's strategic priorities. The position involves engaging with project teams to ensure compliance with environmental and social standards, contributing to the preparation and supervision of projects, and supporting capacity-building initiatives related to environmental and social safeguards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting project teams in the preparation of public sector operations by reviewing and preparing key environmental and social documents such as iESRS/ESRS, assessments, management plans, and environmental and social management systems.
  • Providing guidance through the ESG Guidance Service for operations lacking an assigned ESG Team Member, which includes screening, risk classification, and document review.
  • Contributing to the supervision of public sector operations by monitoring environmental and social risks, reviewing implementation progress, and identifying issues that require attention.
  • Participating in missions and preparing documentation such as aide memoires and mission terms of reference in line with ESG administrative requirements.
  • Supporting capacity-building activities on the ESPF and environmental and social safeguard requirements for executing agencies and internal Bank clients, and participating in relevant training sessions as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in environmental management, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, or related fields. Additionally, candidates should have between 5 and 9 years of progressive experience in relevant areas. Familiarity with the IDB’s ESPF or experience with other multi-lateral development banks' policies is preferred. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment are essential.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree in fields pertinent to environmental management or sciences. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of environmental and social issues that the consultant will address in their role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have between 5 to 9 years of progressive experience in environmental management or related fields. This experience should include working on projects that involve environmental and social safeguards, as well as familiarity with the policies of multi-lateral development banks, particularly the IDB’s ESPF.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders across the region.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time international consultant position with a contract duration of 5.5 months, extendable up to 48 months, subject to eligibility.
