Job Overview:
The Communications Analyst at UN Women Rwanda is responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of communication and advocacy strategies aimed at enhancing the visibility and awareness of UN Women among partners, the media, and the public. This role involves close collaboration with various teams within the Rwanda Country Office, as well as with other UN agencies, government officials, and civil society organizations. The Communications Analyst will play a crucial role in articulating UN Women’s positioning, demonstrating its value, and deepening engagement with partners through targeted communication initiatives. The position requires the production and dissemination of high-quality knowledge products, including reports and advocacy materials, to influence policy discourse and elevate the visibility of results. The Communications Analyst will also coordinate media relations, manage the office's online presence, and facilitate knowledge sharing within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide substantive support to the planning and design of external communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans, ensuring a gender perspective is integrated.
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage and provide insights to inform communication strategies.
  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of advocacy materials, including press releases and briefing materials.
  • Manage media relations, including organizing press conferences and maintaining relationships with relevant media outlets.
  • Build partnerships with donors and advocacy partners to enhance visibility and outreach.
  • Facilitate knowledge management by analyzing and presenting knowledge needs and organizing training sessions.
  • Oversee the Rwanda Country Office’s web and social media presence, ensuring compliance with corporate requirements.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The candidate must have strong communication skills, knowledge of web-based management systems, and experience in social media outreach. Familiarity with graphic design and photography standards is also desirable. The candidate should demonstrate an understanding of gender and human rights issues, as well as possess strategic and analytical skills.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:
The position requires 0-2 years of professional work experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy. Experience in social media is essential, along with proficiency in office software packages such as MS Word and Excel. Familiarity with web-based management systems and experience with modern ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable. International experience is also a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, along with a working knowledge of the local language. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable.

The position is based in Kigali, Rwanda, and is a full-time role.
