Job Overview:
The position of National Consultant for the I Am Music program involves providing technical, programmatic, and coordination support to ensure the successful implementation of music education initiatives aimed at vulnerable children and adolescents, particularly girls. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Education Specialist and will be responsible for coordinating activities in existing music nuclei, contributing to the production of UNICEF Cameroon’s 80th Anniversary anthem, and collaborating with the communication team to document and showcase program results. This role is crucial in fostering life skills, emotional resilience, and social inclusion through music education, inspired by the El Sistema methodology. The consultant will also be involved in monitoring program outcomes and documenting good practices and success stories.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a range of responsibilities including:
  • Coordinating and monitoring the implementation of activities in existing music nuclei across Cameroon.
  • Contributing to the production of the 80th Anniversary anthem for UNICEF Cameroon.
  • Collaborating with the communication team to document good practices, success stories, and lessons learned.
  • Producing human-interest stories and visibility content to showcase the program's impact.
  • Implementing tools to monitor program outcomes and ensuring high-quality implementation of the I Am Music program.
  • Preparing implementation reports and maintaining an updated activity dashboard.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders to promote the program and its objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in music education, with specific skills in musical pedagogy. Knowledge of child rights and the principles of Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is essential. Familiarity with the I Am Music program and the El Sistema methodology is also required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF’s core values and be able to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

Educational Background:
A degree in music education or a related field is required for this position. Candidates should have a solid understanding of musical pedagogy and its application in educational settings, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant work experience in music education, particularly in programs aimed at children and adolescents. Experience in coordinating educational programs and working with vulnerable communities is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF’s mission and values will be an advantage.

Languages:
Proficiency in French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Cameroon. Knowledge of English or other local languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
