Job Overview: The IDB Vice Presidency for Countries and Regional Integration (VPC) is seeking a seasoned Communications Lead Specialist to enhance the IDB's regional positioning through effective stakeholder engagement and strategic communications. This role is pivotal in aligning the VPC communications team with the broader corporate communications strategy of the IDB Group. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of regional communications dynamics and will be responsible for guiding the communications team, ensuring that their outputs reflect the institutional goals and support the Bank's visibility and reputation. The position requires a proactive individual who can foster a collaborative environment while mentoring team members and overseeing the development of high-quality communications products.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Lead Specialist will supervise and lead the VPC Communications Team, coordinating the work of Regional Communications Senior Specialists and providing strategic guidance to ensure alignment with the Bank’s priorities. Key responsibilities include: overseeing the development of communication strategies, evaluating team performance, drafting and editing high-level communications products such as press releases and speeches, and ensuring quality control of all communications outputs. Additionally, the role involves serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on communication strategies, managing crisis communications, and coordinating rapid response communications during crises. The specialist will also lead the planning and execution of VPC’s communication strategies, oversee content production for various platforms, and support executive communications for the Vice President.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international development, or related fields. A minimum of six years of relevant professional experience is required, with a preference for candidates who have ten years of experience in leadership roles within communications or external affairs in national or international organizations. Experience in a multilateral development bank or in developing regions is highly desirable, along with a strong background in strategic communications and stakeholder engagement.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree in fields pertinent to the role, such as communications, journalism, marketing, or international development. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and stakeholder engagement in a diverse and dynamic environment.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least six years of relevant professional experience, with a preference for ten years, particularly in leadership roles within communications or external affairs. Experience working with IDB member countries and a deep understanding of their socio-political dynamics are crucial for success in this role. A proven track record in strategic communications and managing remote teams is also essential.
Languages: Proficiency in both Spanish and English, spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences in the region.
Additional Notes: The position offers an international staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
