Job Overview:
The Cook position at IOM involves supporting the planning and preparation of meals at an Accommodation Center for Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC). The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the National Project Officer and the Shelter Coordinator. The role includes preparing and cooking meals, ensuring cleanliness in the kitchen, and maintaining compliance with food safety policies. The Cook will also be responsible for recording kitchen supplies and shortages, participating in staff meetings, and training beneficiaries in meal preparation. This position is crucial in providing nutritional support to vulnerable populations and ensuring that the kitchen operates efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Cook will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: planning and preparing meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks; supervising the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment; recording and reporting kitchen supplies and shortages; ensuring compliance with food safety handling policies; following instructions from the Shelter Coordinator regarding operations; participating in staff meetings; communicating with other teams about meal planning needs; and training beneficiaries in meal preparation. The Cook may also be assigned additional duties as needed to support the overall functioning of the Accommodation Center.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a certificate of relevant professional experience or certification in cooking, along with an updated and valid health certificate. Successful completion of examinations for food handlers is mandatory. Experience in a similar role is required, and candidates should demonstrate a willingness to work morning shifts, including holidays and weekends. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations is preferred, as is previous experience in a multicultural environment. Strong work ethics and a commitment to humanitarian principles are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a certificate from an accredited institution related to culinary arts or food preparation. Candidates must have a valid health certificate and must have successfully completed food handler examinations. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational qualifications meet international standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in a similar cooking role, ideally within a humanitarian or social services context. Experience working with children or vulnerable populations is highly desirable, as the Cook will be preparing meals for unaccompanied minors. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable working in a multicultural environment and demonstrate flexibility in their work schedule, including the ability to work on weekends and holidays.

Languages:
Fluency in Greek is required for this position, both oral and written. All IOM staff members are required to be fluent in one of the organization's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish. A working knowledge of English or French is considered an advantage, and proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
