Job Overview:
The Head of Office will be responsible for overseeing the activities of IOM Slovakia, managing day-to-day operations, and implementing relevant program activities. This role involves liaising with the Government of Slovakia regarding IOM's activities and ensuring that the Sub-Regional Office and Headquarters are informed of government concerns and programmatic developments. The Head of Office will develop and promote IOM's strategy and programming within the regional framework, maintain relationships with governmental authorities, diplomatic missions, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. The position requires identifying programmatic opportunities, developing projects, and fundraising strategies, as well as ensuring compliance with reporting obligations and monitoring mechanisms. The Head of Office will also manage personnel, budgetary, and financial matters related to IOM Slovakia, contributing to the advancement of Sub-Regional and Regional priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day management and implementation of IOM Slovakia's program activities.
  • Liaise with the Government of Slovakia regarding IOM's activities and keep the Sub-Regional Office and Headquarters informed of relevant developments.
  • Develop and promote IOM's strategy and programming within the regional framework.
  • Maintain relationships with governmental authorities, diplomatic missions, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify programmatic opportunities and develop projects and fundraising strategies.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and coordinate all aspects of projects in close coordination with donors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are in place for project implementation.
  • Prepare statistical analyses, narrative and progress reports, and advise the Sub-Regional Director on recommendations for donors.
  • Organize meetings with implementing partners regarding project activities. 1
  • Undertake duty trips for monitoring and coordination purposes. 1

  • Contribute to the advancement of Sub-Regional and Regional priorities. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Business Administration, Law, or a related field from an accredited institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or a University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary teams in complex operational environments, including humanitarian settings.
  • Experience in designing and implementing strategic plans and policies aligned with organizational and donor priorities.
  • Experience in overseeing budgets and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  • Experience in coordinating with UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders for collaboration and resource mobilization.
  • Experience representing an organization at high-level meetings and advocating for policies with governments and international bodies.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural and political contexts with an understanding of migration dynamics.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Business Administration, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a University degree in the aforementioned fields is acceptable if accompanied by seven years of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience if holding a Master’s degree, or seven years if holding a University degree. Experience should include managing multidisciplinary teams in complex operational environments, designing and implementing strategic plans, overseeing budgets, and coordinating with various stakeholders. Proven experience in high-level representation and advocacy for humanitarian and migration-related policies is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Slovak is required for this position. All IOM staff members must be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish). Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to funding confirmation, and any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon this. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
