Job Overview:
The position focuses on strengthening the monitoring framework and indicators of the National Biodiversity Strategy 2025-2030 in coordination with the Undersecretariat of Natural Heritage of the Ministry of the Environment (MAE) in Ecuador. The contractor will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive monitoring system that aligns with national biodiversity goals and international standards. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to ensure effective data collection, analysis, and reporting on biodiversity indicators. The contractor will also be expected to provide technical support and capacity building to relevant stakeholders to enhance their understanding and use of the monitoring framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop a detailed work plan for the implementation of the monitoring framework for the National Biodiversity Strategy.
• Collaborate with the Undersecretariat of Natural Heritage to identify key biodiversity indicators and establish baseline data.
• Design and implement data collection methodologies, ensuring they are scientifically sound and culturally appropriate.
• Conduct training sessions and workshops for stakeholders on the use of the monitoring framework and data collection techniques.
• Analyze collected data and prepare reports that assess progress towards biodiversity targets.
• Facilitate stakeholder consultations to gather feedback and improve the monitoring process.
• Ensure compliance with UNDP procurement and reporting standards throughout the project duration.
• Provide ongoing support and recommendations for the adaptation of the monitoring framework as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience in biodiversity monitoring and evaluation, particularly in the context of national strategies.
• Strong understanding of ecological indicators and their application in biodiversity assessments.
• Experience working with government agencies and stakeholders in the environmental sector.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in Spanish and English.
• Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biodiversity Conservation, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or monitoring and evaluation methodologies will be considered an asset.

Experience:
At least 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity monitoring, environmental management, or related fields is required. Experience in working with international organizations or NGOs on biodiversity projects will be highly regarded. Proven track record of successfully managing projects from inception to completion is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and proficiency in English is highly desirable. Knowledge of indigenous languages spoken in Ecuador would be an advantage.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is for 194 effective working days within a total period of 270 calendar days.
