Job Overview:
The National Peacebuilding Trainer (Mediation and Negotiations) position is designed for a national consultant who will play a crucial role in enhancing the skills and capacities of individuals involved in peacebuilding initiatives in Fiji. The consultant will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs focused on mediation and negotiation techniques. This role requires a deep understanding of conflict resolution processes and the ability to tailor training content to meet the specific needs of participants. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders, to foster a collaborative approach to peacebuilding. The assignment is expected to last for 35 days, spanning from September 2026 to January 31, 2027, during which the consultant will engage in various training sessions, workshops, and follow-up activities to ensure the effective implementation of the training programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National Peacebuilding Trainer include but are not limited to:

• Conducting a needs assessment to identify the training requirements of participants involved in peacebuilding efforts.
• Designing and developing training materials and curricula that are relevant to the context of Fiji and the specific challenges faced in peacebuilding.
• Facilitating training sessions, workshops, and seminars on mediation and negotiation skills, ensuring active participation and engagement from all attendees.
• Providing ongoing support and mentorship to participants post-training to reinforce learning and application of skills in real-world scenarios.
• Collaborating with UNDP and other stakeholders to align training objectives with broader peacebuilding initiatives and strategies.
• Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs through feedback and assessments, making necessary adjustments to improve future training sessions.
• Documenting training outcomes and providing reports to UNDP on the progress and impact of the training initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation, with a proven track record of conducting training programs in these areas. A deep understanding of the socio-political context of Fiji and experience working with diverse groups, including government officials, community leaders, and civil society organizations, is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate participants effectively. Familiarity with adult learning principles and training methodologies is also required, along with the capacity to adapt training approaches to meet the needs of different audiences.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in conflict resolution, peace studies, international relations, or a related field is required. Candidates with additional certifications in mediation and negotiation training will be given preference. A strong academic background combined with practical experience in peacebuilding initiatives will enhance the candidate's suitability for this role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or related fields. Experience in designing and delivering training programs, particularly in mediation and negotiation, is essential. Previous work with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies in Fiji or similar contexts will be advantageous. The ability to demonstrate successful outcomes from past training initiatives will be a key consideration in the selection process.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all training materials and sessions will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Fiji will be considered an asset, as it may enhance communication and engagement with participants from diverse backgrounds. Candidates who can demonstrate proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region will be viewed favorably.
