Job Overview:
The Protection Coordinator role is crucial for the technical coordination, advisory, fundraising, and representation of DRC in relevant technical forums and working groups. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a technical strategy that addresses the root causes of displacement, enhances protection for hard-to-reach populations, and contributes to solutions for displacement. The Coordinator will provide timely technical advice to the implementation team and the Country Office Team, ensuring alignment with the technical and country strategy. The role requires frequent travel to Area Offices and field locations in Borno, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, reflecting the evolving geographic presence of DRC Nigeria. The Protection Coordinator will also support the Head of Programme in fundraising efforts through strategic planning, timely updates, and sector engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Coordinator will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: providing technical advisory to implementation teams and the Country Office team throughout all stages of program implementation; leading the creation and rollout of the technical strategy with a focus on community needs and program integration; supporting the Head of Programmes in developing the Country Strategy; reviewing proposals, reports, assessments, and evaluations to ensure alignment with the technical strategy; conducting technical capacity building for implementation teams and partners; preparing learning products, standard operating procedures (SoPs), and guidelines to promote good practices in the Protection sector; analyzing protection sector challenges and trends; and representing DRC in relevant technical forums and working groups. Additionally, the Coordinator will engage with stakeholders to promote DRC's Protection program and support fundraising efforts, actively seeking new partnerships and funding opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 5 years of experience in the field of protection, with a minimum of 3 years at a senior technical level. Proven experience in proposal and report writing, drafting technical SoPs and guidelines, and engaging with stakeholders for advocacy initiatives is essential. Familiarity with current sectoral best practices and humanitarian architecture is required, along with in-depth experience in Protection Monitoring, case management, legal assistance, GBV, and protection advocacy. Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory, with the ability to produce well-written reports and communications.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law, International Relations, Political Science, Social Work, Humanitarian Assistance, Sociology, Psychology, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree in one of these fields is desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Experience:
The position requires substantial experience, specifically at least 5 years in the protection field, with 3 years in a senior technical role. Candidates should have a proven track record of engaging with stakeholders, advocacy initiatives, and experience across various sectoral responsibilities.

Languages:
Fluency in English is essential for this position. Knowledge of French is considered a desirable asset, enhancing communication capabilities within the organization and with partners.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 1 year, with the possibility of renewal based on funding confirmation. The role is classified under Band G1 – Non Management, with a potential change to F1 – Manager in the near future.
