Job Overview:
The Protection Case Management Officer (Caseworker) plays a crucial role in the implementation of protection case management for individuals at heightened risk. The officer is expected to strengthen localized protection responses by engaging with community structures and local service providers to ensure that case management support is accessible, context-appropriate, and sustainable. The officer will also conduct household visits and interviews to assess the needs of individuals and families, provide information about their rights and available services, and develop action plans tailored to their specific needs and goals. Additionally, the officer will identify individuals in need of cash for protection and maintain relationships with service providers to facilitate referrals. Accurate record-keeping and participation in case review meetings are essential components of this role, as is advocacy on behalf of clients to ensure they can access necessary services and represent their needs effectively in relevant discussions.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, with a focus on social work and counseling. Candidates should have a strong understanding of humanitarian programming, particularly in protection and psychosocial support services, and experience working with local NGOs or community-based organizations is highly valued.
Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is essential for this role. A working knowledge of English is preferred, as it may facilitate communication with international colleagues and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Case Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Identify and receive referrals of individuals at heightened risk, adhering to DRC's eligibility criteria and case management SOPs.
- Provide comprehensive case management assistance under the guidance of the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager, including case intake, protection risk assessments, action and safety planning, client capacity building, supported referrals, case follow-up, and case closure.
- Conduct household visits and center-based interviews to assess the needs of individuals and families.
- Inform individuals and families about their rights and available services.
- Collaborate with clients to develop and implement action plans based on their needs and goals.
- Assess risks and support clients in understanding relevant risks.
- Identify individuals needing cash for protection and organize the provision of cash assistance.
- Maintain an updated service mapping and foster positive relationships with service providers in Rural Damascus.
- Ensure accurate and confidential case file management and input into the case management database. 1
- Participate in case conference meetings and weekly/bi-weekly case reviews with the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager. 1
- Advocate for clients to access services and support their representation in meetings. 1
- Submit timely and accurate weekly reports to the Protection Team Leader. 1
- Engage in training and capacity development initiatives as assigned. 1
- Conduct all duties in accordance with DRC's Code of Conduct and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Protection Case Management Officer position should possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in social work and counseling.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate empathetically and respectfully with diverse individuals and groups.
- Experience in coordination with local NGOs, community-based organizations, or public service providers.
- Understanding of community-based protection and localization principles is advantageous.
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, and client safety.
- A solid understanding of humanitarian programming, particularly in protection and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks under pressure, and maintain attention to detail.
- Good problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.

- Capability to develop strategies to address barriers faced by individuals at risk of discrimination.
