Job Overview:
The Climate Change & Environment Officer will play a crucial role within UNICEF Viet Nam, contributing to programs that address climate change education, disaster risk reduction, and education in emergencies. This position will focus on the intersection of climate change and equity, particularly for disadvantaged populations such as girls, ethnic minorities, and children with disabilities. The officer will provide technical and programmatic support across various portfolios, emphasizing innovative approaches to climate change education. The Climate Change & Environment Officer will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of climate change issues, particularly as they relate to education and equity. They should have experience in program development and management, particularly in the context of climate change and education. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset are essential. The ideal candidate will also have a proven track record of engaging with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to drive impactful initiatives.
Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in environmental science, education, social sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in climate change, education, or international development are highly desirable and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for this role.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in program development and management, particularly in areas related to climate change, education, and equity. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies in similar contexts is preferred. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and values, as well as experience in developing countries, will be advantageous.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Vietnamese or other local languages is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.

This position is a full-time role based in Hanoi, Vietnam. The incumbent will be expected to engage in both fieldwork and office-based tasks, requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances. The role may involve travel within the country to support program implementation and monitoring. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Change & Environment Officer will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
- Program Development (35%): Contributing to the design and management of the Education Section’s disaster risk reduction, climate change, and environment portfolio; supporting strategic planning and implementation of climate change interventions; leading research on climate change impacts on children; enhancing climate change mainstreaming in UNICEF's portfolio; developing social and behavior change strategies; and contributing to gender equality and inclusion initiatives.
- Programme and Grant Management (35%): Overseeing the implementation of climate-smart school initiatives; monitoring progress on climate change indicators; managing assigned grants; and ensuring financial management and donor engagement.
- Partnership and Resource Mobilization (30%): Supporting donor relations and communication efforts; identifying resource mobilization opportunities; preparing funding proposals; and fostering strategic partnerships with various stakeholders to advance UNICEF’s climate and education agenda.
