Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for several key accountabilities, including acting as the local representation of WFP in Tonga, coordinating engagements between WFP technical units and government ministries to identify priority gaps and opportunities, and supporting the implementation of project activities. The Coordinator will build and maintain strong relationships with national actors, ensuring readiness for project implementation and identifying potential risks. They will also liaise with the Pacific Multi-Country Office regarding partner agreements and monitor potential risks that could delay project outcomes. The Coordinator will maintain a tracking system for project activities and communicate regularly with the Pacific Multi-Country Office about progress and support needs. In the event of a shock, the Coordinator will represent WFP on the ground and identify opportunities for WFP to add value. Participation in inter-agency discussions and coordination forums is also expected, with a focus on advancing inclusive and localized actions within the project areas.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in International Affairs, Food Security, Social Science, or a related field, or a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience. A minimum of five years of professional experience in the development or humanitarian sector is required, demonstrating high performance and leadership capacity. Strong technical familiarity in at least one of the project's priority areas (logistics, disaster management, food security, etc.) is essential, along with firsthand experience in disaster response. Candidates should have experience in capacity building of government and local actors, as well as the ability to identify and lead opportunities for innovation and improvement. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and exceptional partnership-building abilities with diverse stakeholders are also required.
Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in International Affairs, Food Security, Social Science, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of related work experience may be considered sufficient. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the role and the technical areas covered by the project.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of professional experience in the development or humanitarian sector, showcasing high performance and leadership capabilities. Experience in technical areas relevant to the project, such as logistics, disaster management, and food security, is crucial. Proven experience in leading or supporting disaster response initiatives and in advisory roles for government and local actors is also necessary. Familiarity with WFP’s roles and mandates in the Pacific region is preferred, along with experience in strategic and policy engagement.
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages is desirable and may enhance communication and engagement with local stakeholders.

The contract type for this position is consultancy, with a level of CST II and a duration of 11 months. The duty station is Nuku'alofa, Tonga.
